Options Spread / Payoff Software

I know this can be done in TOS
Are you ready to rock or do you want to use TOS for educational purposes until you can benchmark the situation and cross that implementation bridge when you get to it?
How much time between opportunity discovery and need for execution in order to profit?
How much position management is required for this?

As mentioned I can't use TOS as I live in Australia. I really just need excel to track my portfolio's individual option prices and greeks in real time. The payoff diagram is just an extra luxury. I'm looking at LiveVol with Excel which is a little pricey for my needs

Just curious: does such a trade (using options plus a different underlying for hedging or as part of the spread mechanism) not require very much margin?
Wouldn't it be much better to use an underlying that has options, then margin-reducing spreads
and covered positions can be built, which usually reduces the net margin requirement enormously, IMO.

Hedging is not about margin. You need to stop obsessing about margin. Every single post of yours is about margin. Margin is just a tool in trading and you don't have to use it if you don't want to even if you have a margin account. Hedging is all about risk vs. cost. How much risk I can hedge away at what cost.

Imo it's very difficult to keep track of all the greeks because everything happens in realtime and everything can change really fast in high volatility environment. What I think would benefit you is some sort of simulation software that you can plug the greeks into to simulate how they would change or what values they would change into in different volatility scenario to see what would be the payoff for each of the different combos that you are thinking of trading and then you pick the combo that gave you the payoff that you are most comfortable with.

Just curious: why is there such a "ban" on TOS in Australia?
Does it just mean that TOS does not cover the Australian exchanges, or is there rather generally a country-wide "ban" on/of TOS?

By using it over a VPN link it should be possible to use... :D

Maybe someone can help

I need real time options spread payoff software (this includes excel software) that can hopefully chart say an SPX option spread hedged with SPY underlying, or a VIX option spread combined position. It would be great to see the separate and combined greeks if possible.

I know this can be done in TOS, but as I'm from Sydney and I can't open an account to use their software. I'm not sure if I have these combined payoff diagrams in IB's TWS. Tastyworks is rubbish for this stuff. Not sure about Hoadley.

If you want to do it in excel than look at the www.hoadley.net/options spreadsheet.

Hi ZBZN

Yes I emailed Peter about it and he mentioned his software only works with a single underlying, but he didn't answer my question about hedging SPX which has no underlying (hence you need a SPY hedge). I'll work it out

if you can get live pricing in excel, you can prob just use European black scholes for the Greeks. That’s what I do.

noob question: can excel handle real-time data? I use it only for EOD calculations, and calibrating distribution parameters takes approx 45 minutes :banghead:
