Opinions on Interactive Brokers?

I don't want to discredit any brokers but after many decades of trading, market orders might be executed minutes later. So do expect things might go wrong due to server overload, software bugs, heavy traffic or whatever.

or sometimes, it could be our keyboard or mouse (even if it is of superior quality) having intermittent problems.

After you hit sent, even from across the world it should be fast. If it is not, you should test your ping time. Long Ping times with us come from poor internet with many hops plus the use of poor WIFI.
I have clients in Australia, China, Hong Kong and Russia that do not complain about the speed. There was one guy in the US had had old DSL at 1.5 down and .5 up that was subject to slowness.

No. you need to ping the platform's server. On LS trader our IT guys can do this. On Sterling, it is build in and you can see it when you login. You can also choose a server. I'm in NY.

I agree with most of what you say but this. No one here is talking about payment for order flow. You are paying 4.95 at schwab because some HFT is buying the order, leaning on it to trade and make their edge and then selling to you (filling you) when the market is ticking down. For one limit order here and there it may not make a difference but if you are active it makes a big big difference over time.

Besides, you should all be on tiered pricing if doing any size as you could get rebates (negative commissions) on exchanges that pay for providing liquidity or have your per share fees drop to lower than .0035 per share.
Eastern Warrior....Can you tell us what Broker that you use? Is it IB?

Please explain how you came to that conclusion. What fees?
I've been using IB for 11 years. I am happy with them. If you are not trading actively enough to generate a I think it is $15 commissions, you get charged the difference (which happens to me a lot, since I tend to sit on positions for months at a time). Also plan on paying $15 to $25 a month for market data (refundable depending how much you generate in commissions).
