I don't see any COF news. HON and UTX got me for a combined $3100 and there was no news I could find. I think it was just a poison day all around; reminiscent of a day or two last August.

You're going about it the right way - keep it small until you are confident the stock fits you well and you are turning a profit in it (I say that because some people can trade certain stocks that others can't, and there's nothing wrong with that).
Just don't be timid when you are doing well with your stock - keep gradually upping size.
