Open sourcing is stoopid

So those whose money I'm after won't download my source code and build it themselves then spend years researching something that might work (most probably not). They will either buy something that works NOW or move along, bottom line the code is irrelevant to them.

The code can only be relevant to my competition. And don't wanna make it the least easier to them.

Then they're not that bright. Work for someone else. There's nothing you can buy and immediately make money with anyway. If they actually believe that then they're even bigger idiots.

I'll probably open source a tiny part of my strategy backtester, just to have something to show to the corporate clueless if necessary.

Anything beyond toy level / demonstrative purposes would be a net loss for myself.

The Corp pyramid drawing was so dang true ... but it’s really painful when a carbonated drink shoots out your nose. :D

Open source is not stupid. Open and closed source serve different purposes.

Closed source: When you develop your proprietary trading software.

Open source: When you develop an operating system or software which could be used by everyone. You cannot possibly develop alone and it should be co-developed and made available to everyone. Example, Linux and Web browsers.

OK, that makes sense. I should change the title to "Open sourcing proprietary trading software is stoopid" :)

I have been into forex/stocks simulation, do options hold better potential in your opinion?

How many open strategy testers/components are there on gitHub?

Found this one by a guy who's also a member of this site:

[...] Since the summer I've rethought my plan to shut down my existing trading system and https://github.com/robcarver17/pysystemtrade in favour of a completely new platform. Instead I've gone back to plan A: keep the existing system running whilst adding production logic to pysystemtrade so it will be able to replace the legacy code. I'm also going to implement my new ideas on pysystemtrade, although this will require some tweaking to the current system it's worth doing.
