Quote from Bond-Speculator:
...Keep in mind that I do have a number of A+ certifications including networking. While i'm no computer genius, I do have an intimate understanding of what is going on here.
Why do you think others in this thread that uses OEC aren't having problems like you???
It's a tough call because nobody in this thread has mentioned where they are located at, what's the name of their ISP, their computer configurations et cetera.
By the way, I had similar like problems as you did with a particular broker while all my other programs worked just fine.
Therefore, I concluded it must be my broker until I started talking to other traders using the same broker (they weren't having problems).
Anyways, I hooked up my system at a neighbor's house that was using a different ISP.
He didn't mind...he was home sick for a few days taking it easy.
Guess what, my broker platform worked just fine (no disconnections, not data stalls, no data burst, no lost packets and low latency).
The difference was that I used my backup computer at the neighbors and the backup computer has a different configuration in comparison to my primary system.
Now, if other traders using the same broker aren't having the same problems while my system is working normal at a neighbors house while testing on a different computer...
I eliminated my broker as the source of my problems.
Next, I hooked my system back up to my ISP back at home and the problems returned while my other programs showed no problems what so ever.
Anyways, I discussed my problem with an IT pal and he recommended I back everything up (I do such once every two weeks)...
Install my broker platform on a clean computer (a backup computer and I reformatted the hard-drive) and only loaded XP professional software and its updates...nothing else.
Next, I only installed my broker trade execution platoform...my broker platform worked normal.
This eliminated my ISP and leaves one thing left...
My computer configuration on my primary system.
I then installed another one of my trading programs...used it as such for one week and still no problems with my broker platform.
I did this with other programs, one week at a time until I discover the offending program.
When that particular data vendor charting program was installed, my broker platform had lots of problems while my other programs did not.
Simply, it wasn't my broker nor my ISP.
It was my own computer system.
My point, I strongly suspect if you switch brokers again...your still going to have problems until you have done proper troubleshooting (testing on a different computer and testing a different ISP).
Besides, you can use this as an opportunity to get to know your neighbor a little better.
With that said, you should be already suspicious about either your ISP or your own trader workstation configurations when other traders using OEC aren't having problems.
