It's a good point but it's a different situation.The discussion was about removing existing social services, politicians have a hard time doing that because usually majority wants to keep the services and pay for them and that's what I was refering to.

Regarding the border protection - it does not exist so it's much easier for politicians to get around the problem, they just don't make it a campaign issue and don't talk about it especially given that both parties don't want to do anything about it.

but what a politician believes , and what a politician does and says are 2 different things.

Take Bill Clinton for example:
When he first ran for ( and won ) Governor in Arkansas, he was Pro life, but later he changed to pro abortion.
why ?
Once he was Governor, he found out from his advisor's ( Dick Morris ) that if he ever wanted to Run for a higher office in the democrat party, he could not be pro life .

well its always the same, first it was the irish, then the slavs, now the chinese and everybody else. I bet alot of people who dont like the immigration increase has little todo with jobs and more todo with race. Alot of those people wouldnt be protesting that much if they were all wasps and blond haired blue eye and looking like swiss's , its true, if they were all canadians you would be like who cares

Seriously though it's got nothing to do with race or religion. Actually forget about 2 billion people. How about 300 million - it's easy to find 300 million people in the world willing to move to America. So what are we going to do if the population effectively doubles overnight. Where are we going to get housing, roads, infrastructure, jobs, english language teachers, extra police, doctors, schools etc. If you believe trafic is a nightmare now imagine what it's going to be like when the population doubles.

It will take years to absorb this number of people and I am not even talking about terrrorism and security. Of course the libertarian party and the article offering drastic proposals like "open borders" don't address any of these questions.

What's really funny is that Americans discuss illegal immigration in terms of economic impact, effects on taxes, etc. The Mexican perspective is pretty simple: Reconquista. They genuinely believe that the SW US belongs to them.

Think we should open the border? I'd suggest you go hang out in Juarez for a while. Better yet, Nuevo Laredo, where the chief of police was shot to death 6 hours after being sworn in.

thats funny in canada, we think the americans own the open waterways between vacouver island to alaska. Its true, when canadians sued to prevent americans from using nuclear subs entering the strait, which is canadian territory, the us government threatened to annexed the strait as american territory lol, its all perspective, in canada we have a fear that americans want canada.

Secondly, the immigrants who rent an apartment do indeed pay property taxes as it's built into the rent. Apartment buildings pay a far higher percentage of their value towards property taxes than single family homes so get your head out of your ass.

Third, you admit the problem is not illegal immigration at all but instead a failure of the public school system to collect taxes from the people who use it the most: those with a large number of children.

What do you want to do? IPO the New Jersery public schools and then get the parents to pay directly for their childs schooling just like a private school? Horrible idea. Education costs are an investment in the future, I can see why states such as New Jersery have a stagnant economy and population with the attitudes of people like you.

The children of immigrants usually stay in the country after being educated and end up becoming produtive citizens. America is proof; It's a nation of immigrants. So please stop with the xenophobic bullshit.
