Quote from Pa(b)st Prime:
Obama's military plan of merely exchanging an expensive victory in Iraq for an unknowable outcome on the Afghan-Pakistan border is to use his favorite word "unacceptable."
A few of us have called it right so far and Obama isn't even President.
Obama will use Orwellian code like "we're going after the REAL terrorists" "we're fighting where we SHOULD have fought" ect. as he ramps us into a draft and into a war with VERY serious consequences. I've seen this movie before. John McCain starring as Barry "he'll nuke 'em" Goldwater and Lyndon "I'll never send an American boy to do what an Asian boy should do" Johnson.
Notice Obama's new found emphasis on "public service." Notice how he didn't mention military service? He's so friggin' opaque it makes my skin crawl. The Dems will angle for a draft to get unemployed minorities off the streets. BANK ON IT!
Mr. Pabst, let me respond with a couple of notes. If we use up or volunteer armies in something we call a war that has no definition of winning, then, yes, a draft might be in the cards. That would very unfortunate, but as some might say, as in the VietNam war, at least we would have a better cross section of the U.S. population in the military.
Speaking of opaque, trying to find an answer to the question of how do we define winning in Iraq? Much like the movie War Games, the only way to win is to not play. Makes sense that we should not have simply not played in Iraq. Chasing terrorists is something that makes more sense in my opinion.
And, I'm not so sure that getting unemployed Americans into the military is worse than having them on welfare rolls. I'm not a fan of the draft by any means, but making it sound left wing to employ in workfare instead of welfare seems a bit more conservative in nature.
If your skin crawls because of a sitting American Senator, with a strong following by fellow Americans, may be our next President, then I don't know what to say. Some thought the Nation was held hostage for 8 years with Mr. Clinton, some think things are much worse with Mr. Bush, but we seemed to have survived thus far.
Hoping to find the 80% of Americans between the wacky on either side. That way we can work on our many concerns rather than feeding the wallets of extreme media types who pass along fighting words to their disciples. Sound a bit Un-American to me.
