Is how in two days, it was able to completely divert the national consciousness (+media) away from Trump, Capitol Hill riots, COVID, etc.

Believe it or not most people can think about more than one thing at a time. Covid, Trump insurrection, and cute kitty discussions are still continuing even though "What the hell happened in the stock market today" is also trending.
