Aside from how to respond I've wondered if maybe cops should have somewhat armored vehicles, at least bullet-proof glass and some side-door protection. Yeah that would be crazy expensive but what price can be put on the life of a police officer?

While, I agree with you, not going to happen in Los Angeles. Mayor Eric Garcetti just took $150 million from the police department budget. That means even less cops. In the meantime, he continues to give stimulus to illegals with his Angeleno Card. Furloughing city employees a 2nd month so that, he can continue his program? Most of the city employees of Los Angeles are extreme liberals who support the Democrats so, not even one bit sorry for them. They made their bed, now have to sleep on it. They can do without not getting paid another month? Most of them have nice salaries so, maybe, deserve to be put on a financial diet? If they can cut the police budget, they certainly, can cut the budgets of city hall, do nothing bureaucrats with fat salaries. Cut everyone's salaries then.
