Once a story starts hurting the Dems, reporters drop it.

Was it that unclear? Left to their own devices, some states would have students studying religion is science classes. How's that for world class education? If anything it is "clean coal" technology that should be taught in religion classes.

Just an observation from an outsider.

Many states already teach religion in certain schools. They're called Catholic schools.

Education results have certainly not gotten better under the Federal Department of Education, that's for sure. The founders did not envision such a beast.

It is unlikely giving the states back educational jurisdiction would result in all schools suddenly teaching creationism.

It's not a matter of teaching religion. It's a matter of teaching religion in science classes and passing it off as science. Sure, not all schools would adopt such a ridiculous policy, but it would still leave the students at those schools that do so at an educational disadvantage. Think "backwater."

There are tons and tons of schools out there that leave students at an educational disadvantage as things are now, because of poor teachers protected by unions and/or schools where no one wants to teach because they are too dangerous, etc. All of this is under a Federally managed education department.

It simply cannot get any worse and will probably get a whole lot better if local taxpayers are more in control of the choices they have, because local politicians are responsible for education.

The federal department of education has a whole long list of failures, including such winning policy choices as "No Child Left Behind" and "Common Core".

Carter created the department, and it was essentially done so as a payoff to the unions for their endorsement. Since then it's been one disaster after another.

Lastly, of the thirty or so powers delegated to the Federal Government in the constitution, education is not one of them.

Here is a nice chart, showing spending per pupil increases since the DoE was created, and what we've gotten for our money.

You asked for examples of waste, I give you the Department of Education.

Think about all of the big problems America faces today. Seem government created most of them.

Great post TT. If the Common Core math standards are any example, kids are better off back in the one room school house.

We all know what the agenda is here. It has nothing to do with education. A federal department with vast powers is an effective way to force liberal indoctrination on local school boards. It showers money on the educational establishment and its army of consultants, etc, 99% of which are activist democrats.

Trump should have zeroed the department out. Of course, then the media would have attacked him for being against education and children, even though getting rid of the Ed Department is one of the best things that could happen for them.
