The Fox writer says, "I know that television stations are licensed in the public interest. Itâs fair for the FCC to examine how much news a station offers, as opposed to lucrative game shows and syndicated reruns. But the content of that news ought to be off-limits."
I believe the opposite. The FCC has no business overseeing the mix of news, opinion, and entertainment on a channel, but may very well have business verifying that news content is "just the facts". I think the Orson Welles War of the Worlds broadcast is still a timely lesson.
