For starters, it is the economic system of the typical American family. Worker owned companies are another example.

And most economies of the world are actually mixed economies, they have elements of both philosophies (all three?). Statements like "socialism is dead", or "capitalism is..." are wishful thinking at best.

It seems a stretch to compare family life to socialism.

Others might see it as a long term investment. Others as love, others a social contract made with a women in exchange for sex, others might say providing for you own DNA is an act of self love.

My children are certainly not sharing the work or the means of production.

I certainly don't provide for my children under a system like this...

And if you mean socialization of wealth accumulated through capitalist means, then yes. I agree. A rich, prosperous and broad middle class is the LAST thing Authoritarians want. Private wealth is a legitimate threat to the power monopoly of the State. Which explains why they were quick to abolish tariffs, grant MFN status to China, pass NAFTA and watch American factories get shipped to Mexico and Asia. They want us hopelessly broke and dependent on Big Brother. The final nail in the coffin is the end of dollar reserve status. The dollar is the lynch-pin to American economic supremacy. Astonishingly, our leaders openly endorse a competitor to the dollar (SDR), not only for settlement in commodities, but as an alternative to US Treasury markets (SDR Treasury bond). All the while, running up the national debt to Greek-levels. This is full-scale economic warfare. The US Government is literally attempting to break the economic back of this Country. And when they do - in a few short years - most of the nation will be financially destitute, the Government will step-in, seize near total control over the economy and finances of it's citizens (in exchange for their daily bread and shelter), and then the True Authoritarian State will emerge. God only knows what happens next. With this military, and shape of the economy, probably War. Similar to pre-WW2 Germany.

That was a round-about way of saying we're about to experience an economic 911. And if history is any judge, the Constitution and personal freedoms will get absolutely murdered so Big Brother can "save us" from the horror they created. This is what they're openly doing, in plain sight. George Soros is just a pitchman for these criminals. But they're all in it together. This is why the direction of the Country never changes. The debt keeps piling on, the wars keep mounting, the Government keeps doubling in size, the economy keeps getting hammered, and our Freedoms are progressively trampled and demonized as a "threat to safety". The people running this Country - both on the mainstream Left and Right - are HARDCORE Authoritarians. And we're about 3 minutes away from midnight. Bottom of the ninth, one out, full count, down 12 to one.

Im curious, maybe I missed it, but what is real socialism?

To me, socialism works like this, and this is from personal experience.

In the 80's I was in school for electrical engineering. We were in calculus and being exposed to differential equations.

This is essential to the degree process, as we will see this again in physics II, and thermodynamics.

We had a test on Monday.

On Friday some of my classmates decided to go bar hopping, and it went on all weekend. I stayed at the dorm.

On Monday, it was ugly. Out of a class of 25, three people scored 80 and above. Dr. Dean, a Ph.D. in mathematics, was appalled.

What happened next was my first exposure to socialism. The girl who scored a 100, well her score was tossed, I scored an 82 and another kid scored an 80.

Prof. Dean introduced me to a "curve". In other words, we would be graded on the median average of all the kids in the class, which was around a 60.

Some of my barhopping classmates passed the test with a less than 50%

So the three of us who studied got what?

FOR what?

Honestly, this sent me into a tailspin for awhile, because I had learned that all you really needed to be was as good as average.

Why study for distinction when your score goes into a big pot?

In life, our income is our score. U are suggesting that my score goes into a big pot.

That is what "real" socialism is, and I want no part of that.
