The growth has been from debt spending by both the govt and the consumer.

Now the tens of trillions the feds are on the hook for in the way of future entitlements is another issue all together...
In spite of all that the economy is growing and the wage earner is starting to participate in the growth in the form of higher wages. We don't have those annoying sales calls in the evenings either.
The relations with allies were only good as long as Democrats let them make billions from the oil for food program while Saddam was shooting at our planes in the no-fly zone.
Bush's ratings were about 95% against in New Orleans before Katrina, what was the big incentive to drop everything and rescue people from a city that could not evacuate itself even?? FEMA is not first response for evacuations.
If we find Bin Laden he is going to make sure he gets himself killed so he can be a martyr and a hero to the terrorists. He will not want to be like Saddam and be on the internet in his underwear for sure. If we leave him alone the world can see his pathetic calls for Arab Unity as what they are: a guy crying "help me, the Americans are bad asses and they want to kill me".
You should watch Fox News and stop reading all those moronic blogs and listening to Air America. Those guys are all failed stand up comedians at best. Secretary of State Rumsfeld made a surprise visit to Afghanistan yesterday. The president of Afghanistan praised all the work done to date and made comparisons of before and after. Funny thing, CNN and MSNBC, etc. did not cover the story at all so how would you know if Bush is doing anything good if you have your head up your ass with the help of the liberal non-media??

Growth for the sake of growth is meaningless and given that 80% of the country are worse off today than they were 6 years ago that's exactly the case.

You think so? Wages increased from $16.07 to $16.70 from June 2005 to June 2006 (a 3.92% increase), but over the same time the CPI increased from 194 to 202.5 (an increase of 4.16%).

8 million jobs were created, however unemployment remained high. This was a time when we saw more women moving out of the homemaker position and into the working world.
The oil embargo hurt Carter badly, creating large run ups in inflation. Not the worst economic time in our history. The economy as a whole has been at worst decent over the last 60 years.
The best times were during Kennedy, due to his tax cut plan which stimulated GDP growth of 5% annually. However, inflation did start to take hold when they were unable to fund the Viet Nam War. This along with price controls is what hurt Nixon during his presidency as well.
When looking at the fact that we are in a war and deficits were building, this increase in tax receipts with inflation still low is more positive than most would like to admit. Yes we do not have the surplus that Bush promised before 9/11, but to believe that there is not a positive to the lowering deficit all things considered is just a tactic of the Bush critics to downplay anything positive that occurs during his presidency.
Much of the reduction has to do with Bush's own tax cuts. Now if we can get the politicians to ease on spending, including the White House, the country will be doing even better.
