Olive Garden pulls Letterman ads

Quote from TGregg:

His show sucked, IMO. They always had him on MSNBC when I would eat breakfast in a cafeteria back then. If there's anything worse than listening to his show, it's watching the damn thing on TV. :P

But I don't think he shoulda been fired, even though his comments were in bad taste. Letterman's joke was also in bad taste, and he shouldn't be fired either.

yeah, his schtick was insults and making fun of everybody.

At times he could be funny. The reason Imus was fired is because the girls he made fun of were black. There should not be a double standard.

This joke was in poor taste.

Letterman apologized.

FWIW - I don't think Imus, even though a cranky, non-funny, miserable person, should have been fired, either.

Prediction: The longer Palin hangs around in the limelight, the longer the GOP will hang out in the wildnerness.

Mitt Romney must be pulling his well-coiffed hair out.

You still don't get it, do you? Letterman's joke was a reference to conduct, which we can control and for which were are responsible. (And you know full well that he was talking about Bristol.) Imus's comments had racial overtones. I'm not going to comment one way or another on Imus here because this thread is not about him. Just be advised that your reference to a double standard has no suitable context. Unless, of course, you were just going for a laugh.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here.

First, it was at least arguably ambiguous which daughter Letterman was referring to. As has been reported, Palin was attending the Yankees game with her younger, 14 year old daughter, Willow, and not her older, 18 year old daughter (Bristol; the one that had became pregnant while not married), so the context issue gets turned on its head.

Also, I think there's much merit to the claim that had the exact same joke been made about one of Obama's daughters, assuming they were much older, there'd be a furious uproar.

His joke was in bad taste. He obviously meant Bristol, and not Willow when uttering it.

He apologized belatedly which caused most of the uproar.

The far right should tread carefully and not beat this dead horse for further political gain.

Most americans dislike Palin because she's an intellectual lightweight (see my 'Who Is This Dumb Bitch' thread I started the day McCain nominated her as his VP choice, which shocked me, but where my commentary had great predictive value). She's already milked the sympathy train from her supporters as much as she's going to get.

Who the hell eats at Olive Garden anyway?

I'll tell you - the same Jesus Luvin - "rightwing" redneck conservative hicks that kicked out the Goldwater philosophy and replaced it with plutocracy and "Christianity" and ultimately brought down the Republican Party with their idiot GWB.

These are the types that go to The Olive Garden to feel "cultured" while relishing EYE-TAL-YUN food.

yeah, lets talk about irony:

letterman tells a scripted joke about statutory rape, that was reviewed in pre-show meetings, and perhaps even rehearsed

Imus makes on off the cuff remark, that could have been stuck in his head from a Ludacris song he heard on the way to work

Obama stands on stage with Ludacris during his campaign

Ludacris is a mega-star and probably will run for senator some day

the left gets Imus fired, the left defends letterman

Ludacris
Back For The First Time
1st & 10
(feat. Infamous 2-D & Fate Wilson)

Click, click
Click, click
Yeah
Click, click
DTP nigga!

[Infamous 2-0]
I started with ten mack tens
And ten clips and ten pens
Got ten times richer in the span of ten years
Bitch I'm ten times two on a scale of one to ten
I'll battle ten crews with the strength of ten men

[Fate Wilson]
At nine, I was into crime, sex, and drugs
Pushin' an '89 Box Chevy sittin' on dubs
Nine thugs all ski masks, black suited with gloves
Break the imprinted chest with at least nine slugs

[Ludacris]
Man I ate eight clips with eight chicks
Watching eight flicks
You's 8-6 if you ate pussy with fake lips
I figure eight when my mind goes in circles
DID I DO THAT or was it Mystikal and Urkel?

[Infamous 2-0]
On to 7 Ak 47, so what?
I got seven hoes stoppin' by at seven to fuck
Then put seven in your chest seven days a week
And add a foot for good measure you'll be seven feet deep

[Chorus]
It goes 10-9-8-7-6-5-4
3-2-murder 1 lyrics at your door
These DTP niggas come ready for war
So don't start the fucking game
If you won't settle the score

[Fate Wilson]
I got six hoes distributing on six blocks
It's blistering from cops tryna stop these rocks from distributing
Six gun shots left
One pint of Vodka before this pimp will hit
It's street justice, now it's six hole in your casket

[Ludacris]
Give me a high five and I'll put that nine lower than your esophagus
Then smack you so hard that you have to come with 2Pacalypse
Five stars, twenty rims, five cars
I'd add more but I had to subtract one from five bars
[ Ludacris Lyrics are found on www.songlyrics.com ]

[Infamous 2-0]
I got four forty-fours on a rip on the floor
For you niggas talkin' shit
I'm fixin' to show you what for
I did four months in the bing instead of a hearst
Now it's DTP for life, dog for better or worse

[Fate Wilson]
I fuck three best friends
Ran on all three the same game
In these streets I'm a murderer
I got three alias names
I'm three times insane
Three shots will cave your brain
On 3 fire and ready, cock back and aim

[Chorus]
It goes 10-9-8-7-6-5-4
3-2-murder 1 lyrics at your door
These DTP niggas come ready for war
So don't start the fucking game
If you won't settle the score

[Ludacris]
I'm packing two twenty-twos and twice the ammunition
But at Friday the 13th
What's up now superstition?
I'm a two timer with a couple of twins
Double jeopardy
With a pair of two deuces in the two seater Benz

[Fate Wilson]
I got one motto get dough till your gone
I got one main lady the rest of y'all is hoes
I'm numero uno with one more before I go
If you think I ain't the one bitch you too slow

[Infamous 2-0]
And all you zero ass niggas ain't nothin' to me
Because I chop up O's, move dro', and chop keys
0-6 is my clique along with PC
Pretty Rick, Calil, V-Slim and Shondrez

[Ludacris]
It goes 1 to 10 and 10 to 1
Ludacris, Fake Feeze, and that nigga I-Twain
It goes 1 to 10 and 10 to 1
Ludacris, Fake Feeze, and that nigga I-Twain

It goes 10-9-8-7-6-5-4
3-2-murder 1 lyrics at your door
These DTP niggas come ready for war
So don't start the fucking game
If you won't settle the score

Always so amusing how so many of you claim to want to follow the Constitution, yet you always are trying to sub in for the Speech Police. Can't have it both ways guys.

Sarah Palin is a dope! Freedom of speech baby!!!

I don't recall anyone saying that the government should prevent Letterman or anyone else from making such a joke. As such, it is not a Constitutional issue. Sarah Palin has the right to defend her family from sick jokes like the ones Letterman told. The people have the right to show their disgust at Letterman.

Uh....okay.....So, let's all exercise our Constitutional Right of Freedom of Speech and let's all stop trying to be the United States of Speech Police. Let Letterman say what Letterman says and Palin say what Palin says. Hey, let's even let the "people" say what the "people" say.
