Yeah simple is beautiful.
I don't find a maintained chart to be problematic. When the chart is in enlarged to where the action is and a couple of different timeframes, the focus can remain on the right side and when a line and price converge I pay attention to see if the market releases any information via price action around possible support and resistance.

Nothing wrong with a clean chart for sure. Love those too.
