Oil or Gas for daytrading? Which?

CL typically has nice daily ranges, but even so it does have days when it just chops. On those days I see good experienced CL traders getting stopped out repeatedly. Those are the 1 trick ponies who have to trade CL no matter what, even when it would make sense to move on or take a day off.

Someone here once said something is always trending. If you watch a basket of symbols, you will usually get action. Corn, wheat and soybeans have had nice moves lately for example.

You need to do your own research on this and find out what suits you. I don`t have much experience at all with natural gas, but if I remember correctly it is a volatile contract, just like crude oil, but the volume and liquidity is considerably smaller.

Changing instruments because you are bored makes me a little wary though.

I forgot to address this, but gas doesn't provide the action to day trade it effectively in my opinion. I suppose you can catch its good days, but they're few and far between based on my experience. There's a reason John Arnold & Co bailed...

there is plenty of liquidity in NG unless you're trading $1B+ intraday

there are plenty of trends in NG on all timeframes incl intraday and esp on inventory thursdays - there's no need to be a gunslinger and enter ahead of the release b/c the trend usually picks up after the release of the number
 
Well that wasn't to difficult. Simply watching the action for the past week or so for CL. Using my strategy, it flows just as nice as ES when there is some volume and movement. I use range bars, so it was a matter of determining how many ticks to set each bar. Finally today there was a nice pickup in volume across the board. September should be much better than August. Very boring month.

CL and NG both have ample intraday swings and good vol most of the time. I like CL personally, but that is just my preference based on costs/volatility/# of intraday swings

Throw up charts of cl, ng, tf, gc, a grain market or two, and you will see some good opportunities every day in relatively volatile markets .
 
Natural Gas is a work of art. Its one of my guilty pleasures but almost all traders i know give up with it soon enough.

CL though is an absolute delight to trade. We've been short for over a month now. All my signals told me it was going to tank but it did the opposite. Funny thing is the signals havent reversed! So this will be fun!
None of my followers think so though :eek:

Market is now in full casino mode!
