Oh No, NOT Another S&P EMini journal...

New Month, New Thoughts and New Directions for this thread:

I started a new account with $20,000 TC. The future posts will reflect the action in this new account. This will create a transparency that will enable every one to do their own calculations, evaluations etc. ..... So take this account on its own merits.

Just a note of clarification. THIS IS A REAL DOLLAR ACCOUNT (same as my larger account) - not paper-trade account.

Compounding is the key to staying and growing thru all the markets seasons.

Starting with a nominal capital base, a good strategy I used took 30 trades to reach 2 lots. 12 trades to reach 3 lots, 3 trades to reach 4 lots, 5 trades to reach 5 lots, 6 trades to reach 6 lots, and so on.

The main rule is to increase after a win series and decrease after a loss. Set your levels according to your personal risk factor.

Now I understand your risk and position management. It is very enlightening. Thanks.
I see that your specific numbers (contracts and trades) apply to a "position trader" than a scalper like myself. However, I see a good way to adapt your formula to my style of trading and achieve better and more consistent results.

Hey GD,

Believe it or not, I currently trade through Global, and I can't initiate positions during the off hours.

Is that because I need to deposit more margin with'em, or do I need to go through another broker, or do I need to 'OK it withem?

(They were cheapies that I opened an account with years ago, so I still use'em).

Thanks,

Jimmy Jam

P.S.

The reason I ask is that I see a lot of your setups happen before the open.

That's good info there KRSNA, thanks for showing us how it is done in real time.

Here's another version for anyone who wants to take a look-see (but me personally, I perfer KRSNA's method).

Thanks for the info GD, you still in the game today? Ms. Market may go back "at it".

Best,

JJ

that is a very conservative compounding, in fact it is so conservative that I would not even call it compounding, which I have never supported. What I see in your attachment is increasing position size as the ratio between gain/loss increases. And the way you add contracts is also pretty steady. What you do I do not class as compounding, but increasing position size based on previous results and I agree with that strategy 100%.

Let us not split hairs about labels or trivialities, but concentrate on the big picture of trading, trading successfully and helping others trade successfully. We are all in the same boat... facing the same challenges that market throws at us. Every one has something good to contribute, to open our eyes to new possibilities... and help us along the journey... Let us rejoice in our community spirit.

My rules say I can't play any more today, unless ES is ready to close the gap from the morning.... So I am just watching and waiting.... and if it does not do it by 3.30 PM, I will skip it altogether and wait for another train tomorrow.
