Occupiers-What Do You Want?

Quote from Maverick74:

I think that is only a very small part of it. Listen man, I've talked to them. I walk by them every morning and every evening. Yes, there is a combination of all different sorts. Most of them are anti-capitalism. Big business is just part of that feeling. But it's not the big driver.

Another annoying thing, the term "big business". People throw that phrase around all the time but then when I call them out on it, they can't articulate exactly what it is about big business they don't like except that CEO's make too much money.

Well, I can only say that sentiment is not new. There have been people on the left that have always felt that way. But no rally or march based on that kind of thinking was able to stick. I don't know what it's like in Chicago, but this has been going on en masse for three weeks in NYC.

People instinctively try to pick out and caricature mass movements that make them feel uncomfortable. It's easy to do because any huge crowd protesting something is going to have a range of fringe elements. But once a movement reaches a tipping point with volume, the only fuel that sustains it has to be legitimate.

I still think this is fundamentally different from the Arab Spring phenomenon. But I'm no longer convinced this is a leftist Tea Party: i.e., the motivated, principled contingent of a political ideology that's always been there.

Quote from Maverick74:

I probably do. Maybe a few. I just think the guy is a tool. I could have been nicer, but like you said, it's Friday and I need a beer. LOL.

I asked a serious question and if I wanted to talking points from some blog, I would have posted on that blog. It's funny you should mention a beer. I've met many ET'ers in person over a beer and have shared many good conversations. And that is what I wanted on this thread, a conversation, not a lecture. My bad. This is the internet. Bigarrow, I'll work on getting that beer. :)

Don't worry. I think you're a clueless douche :)

And no blogs, son. A little formal education, application and analysis. You might wanna try it. Much better than walking around blind.

For just one time let's have a thread that does not become a flame war. Bottom line, the Arab Spring is in America, it took till October, but it is here. We really need to find out what these protesters really want.

Quote from CaptainObvious:
what do the occupiers want? In truth, they probably want to go back to the way things used to be.
Say what?

The way things use to be is low unemployment, a respectable GDP, and somewhat fiscal responsibility.

What you & these occupiers want is more redistribution of wealth.

Well the left is taking ownership of it and in many cases financing it. I don't think it's all left wing and I don't care if it is or isn't. But like I've said, i talk to these guys every day. I read their signs. I listen to their speeches. Most of them are socialists and I'm not saying that as an insult. They just don't want a private economy.

The reason this movement is not going to go anywhere is because they can't articulate what they want or if they even knew, how to go about getting it. The one thing I know they are not doing is looking for a job. But that's another story.

Quote from Maverick74:

Well that much I agree with you. The fact that no one has been prosecuted for the fraud that took place is pathetic. And I agree, in an age where people sell each other out every day you would think both the right and the left would have thrown a few of these crooks under the bus if only for good PR. The only thing I can come up with is that they honestly don't understand the complexity of the fraud to successfully prosecute them.

We can go into the weekend agreeing. It's just too beautiful a day to be pissing and moaning. Can you believe this weather? Could stay like this year round would suit me just fine. Have a good weekend.

It is NOT an arab spring. Those kids were willing to die for their freedom and many of them did. These kids would run screaming if you even took their i-phone away from them. Let's keep things real RCG. I agree, I want to know what they want and I'm not saying they don't have valid issues, but let's not make them out to be something they are not. The word sacrifice is no where to be found on their i-phones.

Yeah yeah cozing up to me so I don't forget about that dinner I might owe you. And no, I cannot believe this weather. Perfect day for a protest!

How old are you? You are talking like you are still living in mom's basement. Do you want to quote me where I said any of that? Just post the link or copy the text below exactly where I said that? Can you do that kid? Pretty please with a bow on top? I bet you can't. LOL.

Kid? Wow. Good one. I almost shit myself laughing.....

You sound like a fag with that pretty please and a bow on top. Is that how you dress up for the wifey?

Against my better judgment, here ya go. Remember, ponzi schemes are a good thing. Apparently, so is exporting wealth to other countries. Any other pearls of wisdom for us?

Had the banks not gotten away with what they did, we never would have had the housing boom, all my yuppie friends would be renters instead of owners,

If that is the case then simply disburse the crowd. Yet, our police are afraid to do so. Why is that?
