Obama's presser to suggest raising taxes on the "rich" is full of lies and falsehoods. Including one that isn't mentioned in the fact check article below: The last time tax rates were lowered prior to the Bush tax cuts taxpayers gave up a myriad of tax shelters and tax loopholes. Comparing tax rates today with tax rates of the 50's, 60's and 70's is like comparing apples and oranges. Tax shelters and loopholes abounded back then when tax rates where higher. Rates were adjusted downward to offset the elimination of these tax avoidance devices. Raising tax rates without the tax shelters and loopholes is akin to increasing the tax burden to unprecedented levels.
