you want to know why? it was not single govt payer and instead it was designed to give money and ever greater control to insurance companies... it even forced people who chose to do without to pay a jizra to the terrorists who forced this crap on us.
It sucked from the beginning. many of its gains were simply collecting names of people who qualified for medicare.
It was a disaster and young healthy people never wanted to signed up for their own premiums.
It left millions uninsured and it was advertised to be all about getting those millions insurance.
you know that which is why your tried to pre empt that argument with you weak "would completely eliminate the uninsured" mis direction.
What you posted may be true (mostly), but it does not address the real reason more were left without medical coverage than originally projected. It is a bit complicated and very clever on the part of those intentionally trying to destroy obamacare. I'll explain it to you.
In most states, particularly red states, single persons without dependents*, and who do not qualify for S.S. disability, can not qualify for medicaid no matter how little they earn. This is something not known to the average insured person! Furthermore the expansion of medicaid under obamacare was to include these single people who had very low incomes, of which there are millions. Single people with income well above the poverty level would qualify for premium subsidy under obamacare , but those who had incomes low enough to qualify for expanded medicaid would have income too low to qualify for premium subsidies!!! Republican strategists new this when the took obamacare to the Court asking that States be allowed to opt out of medicaid expansion. Nearly all the red states opted out, at least initially, saying (lying) they could not afford the expansion despite the expansion cost being federally covered 100% dropping to 90% after a number of years. What this did in effect is leave millions of young single people who were either over 26 or whose parents were already on medicaid without access to medicaid and without access to subsidized premiums. Their only access to medical care was through the emergency room! With time, in some communities charity clinics partially filled the gap during daylight hours, but some of these folks could not even afford the low co-pay at these clinics and would, even during the day, go to emergency rooms for care, where they can not by law be turned away. Of course after business hours they had no other option. Emergency care treatment is ridiculously expensive, and some fraction of those patients ended up being admitted and receiving many thousands of dollars of care (invariably greatly padded by the hospitals' business offices). Hospitals claim that they end up picking up the tab for these uninsured emergency room visitors.
Hence it was the Red states opting out of Obamacare that created all these uninsured non-medicaid eligible, non-subsidy qualifying people. The Republican plan worked beautifully, just as anticipated to do as much damage as possible to obamacare. And now, under the you break it, you own it principle, Trump with his additional moves to to create further damage, must, along with the Republican party, own Obamacare. What to call it? Trumplican-care???
You Break It, You Own It! I hope that bunch of morons are rightfully proud of their accomplishment come Fall of 2020. Eventually we will be able to credit them with helping to push the U.S. into Single Payer! (Be careful what you wish for, there might be unintended consequences!)
