obamacare levels the playing field.

Papa John's Obamacare Price Hike Cheered By Ian's Pizza In Wisconsin

Martin, a part owner of Ian’s Pizza, a pizza shop with four locations in Wisconsin, said his business has offered full heath care coverage to its 50 full-time employees for years, making it all the more difficult to compete with national chains like Papa John's that pay workers low wages without health benefits.

"This may level the playing field for us,” Martin said of the Papa John's price hike. “If they have to pay for benefits, and that pushes their prices up closer to ours, it will justify what we’ve been paying for and what we’ve been fighting to do the past few years.” (Ian's knows a bit about fighting, having fed demonstrators free slices during last year's protests in Madison.)

Like many of the 60 percent of small businesses that pay employees health benefits, Ian's Pizza has struggled to compete with national chains that enter local markets and undercut existing prices. But Obamacare may give local businesses some breathing room as national chains lose the advantage they once wielded through not providing health insurance, according to Jonathan Gruber, a professor of economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Obamacare mandates that businesses with more than 50 workers offer an approved insurance plan or pay a penalty of $2,000 for each full-time worker over 30. “Evidence suggests that when health insurance costs go up, worker wages fall, rather than prices going up,” Gruber said. “If firms are forced to give their workers health insurance, they generally react by paying workers less in wages; they don’t raise the price of goods."

However, in the case of Papa John's, a portion of its employees are already paid at minimum wage, Gruber pointed out. "So you can’t reduce wages for those employees, and the firm may have to increase prices a little bit,” he said.

who else is happy the playing field is beling leveled?

During that same interview, talking about Obamacare I said, though it wasn't widely reported:
•"The good news is 100% of the population (full-time workers) is going to get health insurance. I'm cool with that."
•"We're all going to pay for it. There's nothing for free."
•"And this way I get to provide health insurance and I'm not at a competitive disadvantage ... our competitors are going to have to do the same thing."

John Schnatter is the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Papa John's

Pizza, good. Papa John though, I thought he was all upset about this, trying to make it all Obama's fault. Guess he figured out that life and business go on in America. No need for all this Fake Panic.

If you go look at his article just posted you'll see that he never said those things about Obamacare, except for what FT clipped. This whole Obamacare "gotcha" story is bullshit.

this is why you are a troll liar... you are not here to learn.
you do not correct you bullshit when proven wrong...

I have corrected you on this before.
This was not about republicans at all...
not one republican voted for the bill on final passage.

It was all democrats...
You lefties could have had single payer...
But Obama Pelosi and Reid sold us out to their insurance company masters.

Quote from Free Thinker:

we cant. republicans will not allow it. obamacare is the best that was able to squeek through the legislative process.
pretty much everyone knows that single payer is the best answer but it is not a realistic expectation under the current political realities.

nonsense. republicans strung the dems along for a year. "if you do this we might support it". "take away this provision and we migh vote for it" ect. pretty soon it was watered down to what we see today. pretty much the same thing the romney passed in mass.

in the end the republicans voted in mass against it proving that to them it was all a big game of delay.

But it's OK to have a new fake alias every few months? :D

Still untrue, but I have admitted to another alias a few years back.

I guess we have a contest to see how many posts per day now. Just kidding. Hope you can lighten up a bit. I really mean that.

OK, I have to go with my gut on this one. Although Jem and I disagree on many things, I also believe that Obama could have and should have, fought harder for single payer. But, yes, I also understand my friend Free Thinker who realizes that getting something passed was better than nothing. Now that we have another 4 years, hopefully with some agreement, some sort of compromise, we can move forward. Key work - Hopefully.

I've said before, you start exhibiting some intellectual honesty. Start calling out the lies and hypocrisy of your fellow liberals. And I'll be glad to. Until then, go fuck yourself. I really mean that.
