Obama Praises Islam as 'Great Religion'
President says Islam is "part of America," hails the religion's "commitment to justice and progress"

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama on Tuesday praised American Muslims for enriching the nation's culture at a dinner to celebrate the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

"The contribution of Muslims to the United States are too long to catalog because Muslims are so interwoven into the fabric of our communities and our country," Obama said at the iftar, the dinner that breaks the holiday's daily fast.

The president joined Cabinet secretaries, members of the diplomatic corps and lawmakers to pay tribute to what he called "a great religion and its commitment to justice and progress."

"Commitment to justice and progress?" By killing anyone who disagrees with them, stoning women and treating them like farm animals, sponsoring terrorism? We know obama also deeply admires castro and Chavez. I wonder what he considers dangerous and unamerican? Sarah Palin maybe?

The spirit behind this holiday is a reminder that Islam brings hope and comfort to more than a billion people worldwide. Islam affirms God's justice and insists on man's moral responsibility. This holiday is also an occasion to remember that Islam gave birth to a rich civilization of learning that has benefitted mankind.

Here in the United States our Muslim citizens are making many contributions in business, science and law, medicine and education, and in other fields. Muslim members of our Armed Forces and of my administration are serving their fellow Americans with distinction, upholding our nation's ideals of liberty and justice in a world at peace. And in our Nation's Capital, this center contributes greatly to our spiritual and cultural life.
 
Some are total retards on this site. What else are you supposed to say during RAMADAN? People frequently engage in meaningless niceties depending on situation. Politicians do it more than anyone.
 
The First Amendment, that's number one on the Bill of Rights, you know, the one that comes before number two, says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof".
As a matter of simple, stupid fact, those are the very first words in the Bill of Rights. As in the very first thing the drafters of that section of the Constitution wanted to emphasize.
The spirit of that amendment is shown by Jefferson's tombstone.
We've come a long long way from that; well, some of us have. The drooling idiots among us, to be specific. AAA once again shows himself to be the most ignorant poster on this site, in spite of the stiff competition.

The First Amendment grants freedom of religion. Congratulations, you already know more about it than some members of the Supreme Court.

Maybe you can explain what that has to do with the president making over the top and ridiculous comments about his childhood religion, which sponsors terrorism, treats women like animals and mandates death for homosexuality?

Other than the fact that islam for some reason is the only religion the antiChristian bigots of the left actually respect.

1) I wonder how the scales would balance, if we put the financial and moral drain of islamic terrorism and wars in one side... and "american muslim" contributions in the other

2) How much do leaders in Arab countries (like Iraq or Iran) laud all the contributions of their citizens who are jewish, christian or other religions?

Presidents routinely make proclamations on the occasion of major holidays, in case you hadn't noticed.
Ramadan is the holiest time of the year for Muslims. (Not something I would expect you to know, given your wide range of knowledge, but I included the link so as to soak up a few drops from the vast seas of your ignorance.) Therefore, some sort of statement would be in order.
The rest of your statement is the usual output of the right on this forum. Do you guys ever get tired of trying to outdo each other on how scummy you can get?
