do you have a comprehension problem? he simply said that if you are elderly and only have 2 months to live it does not make sense to spend hundreds of thousands of public money in a futile attempt to keep you going another month. that does not preclude you,if you have the money, from spending your own money on that qwest.
does any thinking person think that is unreasonable? these questions have to be faced. do we give heart transplants to 90 year old alzheimers patients?

I think he was trying to point out that Robert has alluded to 'death panals'. Of course, he did not use that term but the right has to use inflammatory words to account for a lack of ideas.

One thing I will admit; Democrat leaders ARE being devious when they avoid talking about the 'hard choices' that a nationalized system will require. It is very reasonable to refuse thousands-dollar treatments to add one or two or six months to the life of an 80 year old. It would do the cause much good if we were to stop mealy-mouthing around these inconveniences and be upfront and honest. I think a LOT of conservatives would understand and support that kind of honesty.

An earlier poster stated that he was surprised that I, a liberal, would come out and admit that the current package is just a ruse so that we can, eventually, bring about the change that we really want. These people, conservatives, aren't entirely stupid: they don't like feeling that they are being fooled. Now about their selfishness.....

That is another good example of our team running away from an issue, the truth. How could any, and how many would complain about a directive that allows doctors and patients to discuss end of life issues !!! What THINKING person wouldn't discuss those things?!?!? That is how Obama and others should have responded: forcefully and often. Start playing 'offense' for a change.

One legitimate concern that conservatives and non-conservatives have is that nationalized health care will be a blank check program. Assure them, we are going to make cost saving decisions. 70 year olds AREN'T going to get organ transplants as long as there are people in the 20, 30 and 40's who are waiting for the same organ. Of course, we would not want to preclude people, relatives and volunteer donors, from making an organ donation to a SPECIFIC patient of they want. Logical cost decisions under a nationalized system would be no different than the current system: we need to explain that. (I understand that we have but they aren't listening. They'd rather listen to the insurance and drug companies who have a vested interest in stopping any and ALL health changes.)

All in all, I have gathered that we are on the same page. Thank goodness for that or I'd be practically shouting to myself.

LOL. No, I'm not sure. We are passing laws to prevent the sale of organs but laws never stop bad people from doing bad things. However, it goes on now and it may or may not get better with a nationalized system so it's a wash.
