Obama keeps his promise on getting combat troops out of Iraq

Quote from Wallet:

How many troops still in Iraq?
$hitloads still in Iraq.......the timid and docile masses CONNED again by the corporate media spin.

Some "Combat Arms" units have been moved out mainly (front line type units). Plus now we have PRIVATE merc teams under DoD payrol still in Iraq.........fricking private armies now......what a *&^%%^&* mess!!!

These ARE combat units, moron. Calling them "Advise and Assist Brigades" doesn't change anything except maybe in your "mind" and in the "minds" of your fellow Obama sycophants. If Obama told you dogshit is chocolate pudding you'd probably tell him it tastes sweet and creamy.

Of the seven Advise and Assist Brigades still in Iraq, four are from the 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Stewart, Ga. The 1st Heavy Brigade of the 1st Armored Division, based at Fort Bliss, and the 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division, based at Fort Carson, Colo., are also serving as Advise and Assist Brigades.

The 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the 25th Infantry Division is based at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Two combat aviation brigades also remain in Iraq, according to Dan O’Boyle, Redstone Arsenal spokesman.

A major step, he said, would be to get combat troops out of the country by about 16 months after taking office.

Obama went a few months over that 16-month timeline, but he accomplished the removal of combat brigades this week.

My brother-in-law returned from his second tour in Iraq last week.

According to him, although obviously many troops are coming home, the ones remaining are doing exactly the same thing they have been doing. The administration is simply calling it something else in an apparent attempt to make it look like he has kept his campaign promise.

BTW, Did you count this?
This is Obama at work trying to guarantee an Iraqi loss for the US
Fortunately the grown-ups were in charge at the White House.

What you mean is that Obama fulfilled Bush's promise.

WASHINGTON -- Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama said Tuesday U.S. combat forces should be out of Iraq by spring 2008 to end "a foreign policy disaster" but he stopped short of endorsing a cutoff in funds.

The Illinois senator introduced a bill to force the redeployment under law

Obama's bill would cap troop levels in Iraq at the early January level of around 130,000, when Bush announced he would send 21,500 additional U.S. forces to Iraq. It would require that troops begin coming home on May 1 with the goal of removing all combat brigades by March 31, 2008.

dont plan on him thanking bush for it. he only blames bush.

My cousin, who left the Air Force in May, says the same thing. It's all just relabeling for political purposes. He also said that private contractors (heavily armed) are arriving by the planeload.

He said there's also a huge increase in "CIA paramilitary" in Iraq. Most of these guys are former special ops (Rangers, Seals, etc.) recruited by the CIA. They're officially counted as "intelligence assets" rather than combat personnel to disguise their missions.
