More people are in jail for drugs than for driving drunk...yet more people drive drunk and impose a greater potential threat on the lives of others than simple recreational drug users.

Quote from Mercor:

Back 20 years DUI in most states was not even a felony.
Many times ,I recall , police would just make everybody pour out the beer then they would let you go.

It was Reagon and the republicans who started the movement to be tougher on crime. That has saved 1000's of lives. Of course the liberals always complain about the prisions.

Well there's that, but the point is that Bush and Dick were arrested and convicted while Obama was arr... no wait, Obama wasn't covicted of anything.

I wonder what the point was...

Quote from bigdavediode:

Hell if Bush's drunk driving charge, and Cheney's two DUI convictions from years past weren't an issue I hardly think that this merits worrying about.

Hopefully by emphasizing equal sentencing for crack as for cocaine so whites go to prison as much as blacks -- or better yet, hopefully emphasizing rehabilitation.

I can't find anything in his 60 page policy position paper on drugs... but I did Google and find that he's spoken in favor of needle exchanges in the past to reduce the spread of HIV and therefore reduce health costs.

Oh, and I checked the previous posters' accusation that Obama sold drugs, and there's no quote that supports this at all. Just another GOP lie, I suppose.

Obama wasn't even as smart as Bush to say he didn't remember doing drugs.

This is the guy you want for President??

Quote from bigdavediode:

Honest? Yes.

For a moment I thought you were serious.

"Obama acknowledged that Rezko had raised $250,000 for him — about $100,000 more than had previously been disclosed and about five times more than Obama conveyed during a November 2006 question-and-answer exchange with the Sun-Times."

"Rita Rezko has since sold the lot, and plans call for a single-family home to be built there, Obama said."

Now I don't even know if you're an American but here in Chicago NOBODY gives you a quarter mil just for kicks.

I agree with that -- that a lot of scum want to donate and fundraise as much money as possible for politicians. But which part of this was immoral or illegal?

And why is worse, or based on a different standard than this:

"A former investment banker who admitted to "loaning" himself millions from his client's accounts without their knowledge is a fundraiser and donor for John McCain's presidential campaign and the Republican party." (Also he was a chairman of the Oregon GOP.)

or this:

"McCain's Abramoff Linked Fundraiser Nets $1.75 Million"

or this:

"McCain Fundraiser Oversaw Payments to Terrorist Group"

"Carl H. Lindner Jr., the billionaire Cincinnati businessman, was CEO of Chiquita Brands International from 1984 to 2001, and remained on the company's board of directors until May 2002. Beginning under his tenure, Chiquita executives paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia...

"McCain Fundraiser: “Rape is like the weather”

Like AAA I'm not going to cheer lead for McCain. I think he's a duplicitous fuck. The diff though is while most crappy stuff that pols do is for fundraising purposes the Rezko/Obama house swap was for personal gain. It's the Chicago way. Just like the Congresswoman who I ran against. (and one of Obama's closest allies)She was a Chicago teacher turned legislator married to guy who ran a non-profit (Robert Creamer who contributes to Huffingtonwhore) and yet on two modest salaries they live in a home worth around 2mil. No wonder Creamer went to jail-no wonder Rezko is in jail. Yet the Schakowsky's and Obama's and Daley's keep on ticking. They're like the Mob (who until recently was a prime force in Chi Dem politics). These guys know how to layer things so that even when caught they can't be convicted.

The moral outrage is a smokescreen.

You resent being beaten badly by a woman...

Too funny.

When it comes to politics, you would vote for anyone who would cut your taxes.

Pretending you have a moral center is a compete sham...

Isn't that right, Adolph?
