People seem to forget these ISIS psychos are the people Obama's policy was going to hand Syria over to. Of course, they claim they were supporting the "moderates", as if they even existed. Look how well that turned out in Libya.

As far as our guberment supporting the opposition to assad, well yeah that is ridiculous.. but most of us who pay attention were against any involvement in syria. I recall most conservatives on this board, including myself, bashing obama, mcvain etc, for supporting the FSA.
Terrorist groups have now become a terrorist army. The terrorist army will soon have a country all their own. A nation of terrorists with a well armed, combat trained and hardened army the likes of which we have not seen. Now we can sit back and watch this all happen, and believe me I understand the argument for doing just that. Sadly, that doesn't solve the problem. Their nation and army will only grow larger and stronger.
It's time to roll up our sleeves, put no less than 500,000 troops on the ground and push forward establishing an actual front line, taking ground, securing that ground, push forward, take more ground, secure more ground...rinse, wash, repeat until it's done. It will be costly. Tens of thousands of our troops will die, but it will come to an end.
We have dealt with fanatics before during WWII. Bold and determined they vowed to fight to the death. We slaughtered them by the hundreds of thousands, and until we demonstrated that we would keep killing them by the hundreds of thousands, the war raged on. It was not until then that the fanatics suddenly became reasonable. This is what we must do to finally end this, or we can do as we've been doing and be nibbled to death by a duck. Make a choice or have it made for us, but a choice will be made one way or the other.
There are no clean hands. Many mistakes have been made along the way. No good or easy choices. We can move forward while looking in the rear view mirror, a certain way to crash and burn, or we can blaze a new trail. It is this moment in history that our country will emerge once again as the true leader of the free world, doing the hard and ugly work that comes along with that responsibility, or we will perish into a beaten people, enslaved not only to the terrorist nation, but our own inability to do anything but cower in fear. Again, a choice is going to be made, right here, right now. No more hand wringing. No more whistling past the graveyard. We make the choice or it gets made for us. Live free or die. It's more than just words on a license plate.
What makes you think another adventure in nation-building in the ME will turn out any differently than the two failed efforts we poured so much treasure and so many lives into?
We will not go in there like we did in WW II with saturation bombing of cities,e tc. For one thing, that is now a war crime. It's apparently ok for ISIS to cut the heads off prisoners, but we will be held to excrutiating standards by the international human rights handwringers.
How many lawyers do you think ISIS has in its ranks and how often are they consulted ? We had hundreds of them in Iraq, passing judgment on everything from which bullets were legal to who we could detain. Speaking of which, we had the leader of ISIS incarcerated in Iraq and let him go. Perhaps he didn't get his rights read to him correctly.
ISIS didn't just spring up like mushrooms after a rain. They get massive financial support. Where do you thnk it comes from? Our "allies" in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the Emirates and especially Qatar.
We should have let Saddam keep Kuwait, but he didn't have the DC lobbyists the Emir of Kuwait did.
My point is, we are not going to do the job right, so we should stay out. A start would be to pressure the sunni countries to cut off financial support, but we either aren't doing it or they are ignoring us. It's not like the other side, the shias, are any bargains either. Actually, they are the more radical islamists. The sunnis will fight to the death to avoid being ruled by shias, and who can blame them?
