I am a Democrat (for lack of a "better" electable choice). I own a 30-06, a 12 gauge and an AK-47. I enjoy shooting them all. Sure agree with you about the currency issue. Food and ammo over gold any day after a major meltdown. Need to ask you this, however. I lived in Ill in the 70's, and back then I couldn't even buy a box of ammo without signing forms. Is it still like that? Isn't chi town one of the toughest cities in the states on people who use handguns to defend themselves? I'm pretty sure it's not the pubs who made carrying handguns in big cities illegal. Guess it's ok if your carl rowan, though. Dem law: do as I say, not as I do.

If I'm not mistaken, in New York the AK47, AR15, Mini 14, etc are all considered assault rifles, and are banned (or were). Is that still the case?

I don't think it's a misconception about dems and guns. Every time a major crime occurs with guns, there is a cry from the left for tighter gun laws. I'd rather see tighter wack job laws. Guns don't kill. And a note to the media: A semi auto and auto are NOT the same thing. Get the facts straight.

There are no doubt some dems that don't have a problem with gun ownership (one of the best target shooters I know is a die hard dem), and Mccain has his own issues as he has not been the greatest friend to gun owners in the past.

I would love to see a sane, electable, libertarian in my remaining years....don't think it will happen, though
 
4000 dead american for country that think they are on welfare . If you are on welfare making good money and mcain says we will not withdraw .Whats the incentive to get off the $US welfare .

As far as i see we have won the war. There is no more weapons of mass destruction and sadam is out of power. Isnt that victory.

If you lived in Australia, you would now only be able to legally own the 12 gauge, or so I heard. If it can happen there, it can happen here. Any australian gun owners on the forum care to comment? Just curious how the law came to be and how tough it actually is.

Incidentally(in my opinion) we are not fighting a war in Iraq.It is just another in a series of military exercises that never were intended to be won or solve anything.Think about it. The last "war" we intended to win was WW2. In todays political climate and with todays leftie press we would surrendered as we have in every military action since WW2.

Like the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act of 2008 (S. 3036). Let's hope the pubs will have at least 41 or so in the senate to fight this type of shit. I would not be surprised to see this kind of stuff coming out en masse with a filibuster proof congress and Obama as president. Sadly, Mccain also supports this bill. Sadly, warner helped draft it. "The U.S. Senate is expected to begin deliberations on the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act of 2008 (S. 3036) as early as the first week of June 2008. The bill is sponsored by Senators Joe Lieberman, the Independent from Connecticut, and John Warner, Republican of Virginia.

S. 3036 directs the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to establish a program to decrease emissions of greenhouse gases, with the goal of lowering emissions 63 percent below 2005 levels by the year 2050. These reductions would be achieved through a system that would require companies to cap their emissions and then have them trade emissions rights with each other.

This is absolutely true. In the 90's, my wife and I convinced a young man working for me to vote Republican. He did, and talked the talk on conservatism. Then he went to college. After not seeing him for a few years, we had an opportunity to work together again, and I was stunned by what I heard.

He extolled the virtues of Marxism. After reminding him of the complete failure and horrendous amount of death caused by Marxist's of the last century, he gave the following answer. IT DIDN'T WORK BECAUSE IT WASN'T TRIED CORRECTLY. This he learned in a philosophy class.

Not to drift too much into religion, I knew another guy who took a similar class in a different community college. He came out an athiest who had to follow no rules since he now was his own god. He also began spouting how unfair life was and how we need socialism to make things fair. Needless to say, my frienships and working relationships with these folks ended soon there after. For the record, I believe in religious freedom, providing one's religion does not wish me dead or infringe on mine.
 
I made good money stocking up on Assault weapons prior to the Clinton Gun Ban in the 1990s then selling them for twice and tripple what I paid for AKs and AR-15s and the high capacity magazines everyone likes. I have been buying again because I like collecting guns, but things may be different this time around. I do not think that Obama will become president, but even if he does... he and the democratic congress may not have the ability to push thru draconian federal gun laws. First of all the upcoming Supreme court decision on the second amendment...if it goes as it should, then the Federal government at least, may have very limited ability to ban semi auto rifles, shotguns and pistols. Secondly many of the democrats in the house and senate learned their lesson from the results of the 1994 Assault weapon ban and will not back it again. Even people like Senator Harry Reid, are against another assault weapons ban.
