I note that conservatives always complain about Democrats not following the constitution and liberals always complain about Republicans not following the constitution when the fact is that neither party gives a damn about the constitution. There is only one member of congress who cares about following the constitution, and, no surprise, he's hated by his own party.

Yes, but remember that no matter how alike the two parties really are, at the end of the day we must not elect a republican, particularly if he's a supply-sider.

The Patriot Act was set to expire by Bush. Obama extended and expanded it with his Democratic congress. But thanks for trying.

I predict the courts will not allow this to stand. In general, the Executive and Judicial branches are not allowed to second guess the internal workings of the Legislative. If the Senate, which is under the control of Obama's party after all, says it is in session, then it is not the role of a court to second guess that determination.

Obama is developing a frightening rationalization that he can just go ahead and do things if the congress doesn't give him the authority he asks for. Sooner or later, that attitude is going to lead to talk of impeachment. Congress has a constitutional duty to protect its authority and not let any president piss all over it, which is pretty much what he is doing.
