LOL, i want to see the subsidies end, im just pointing it out to you, be careful what you wish for..... i guarantee you will see 1.00/Gallon higher prices if you end the subsidies..... so dont bitch when it happens.....the companies wont simply eat the loss....

I wont bitch about it, because i want to see the subsidies end, but i guarantee there will be a line up of OWS protesters around the block when/if subsidies end and gas goes up by more than a buck a gallon....

I was merely trying to point out the fact that there is going to be a major "shock to the system" when the government gets out of the idea of trying to subsidize businesses.

The Government has spent the last 30+ years trying to steer consumers to act in a certain way with everything from mortgages, to gasoline, so we have essentially created a jigsaw puzzle that is so complex, where we have influenced consumer behaviour through subsidies, so much so that the system no longer works because it isnt based on the natural decisions that consumers in the free market would make.

So when/if we yank all subsidies there is going to be one hell of a shift in consumer behavior and we better all be prepared to deal with the "shock to the system" it brings along with it.

And without these subsidies low carbon pollution energy sources would become more competitive. And if the true future cost of carbon based energy sources were included in the current price, the economics of it would become even less attractive.

Instead of repeating Obama talking points, how about specifying exactly which "subsidies" you are so upset about?

Do you think encouraging domestic energy production is a worthy policy, or should we just rely on OPEC? Clearly obama wants gasoline prices as hgh as possible without totally tanking the economy. Is that something we as voters agree on? Or do we question why we would want to punish oursleves to prop up his pals in the (very heavily subsidized) alternative energy sector.

Oil companies pay enormous taxes, certainly far more than White House favorite Warren buffett or the heavily subsidized film and music industries. They've never required a bailout either.

We're on the same page, although I did get into a pretty intense argument on here a few months back when I argued the finer points of "crony capitalism" vs capitalism...or the notion of a kleptocracy.

Unfortunately, somehow/somewhere, most of the right lost their principles and started endorsing this unhealthy alliance between the public and private sector.

And most definitely, crony capitalism = socialism.

It's not a novel concept and appropriately describes everything we've witnessed these past few years.

The dwindling middle class bears the brunt of it via inflation and/or greater levels of taxation at the state level to fund the myriad social programs.
