Conservatism is really neither left nor right, despite oft-repeated associations. Some who are conservative in their convictions consider themselves "right" because they have never been exposed to a healthy definition of conservatism nor been offered an alternative description of such convictions by those who speak as authorities on the subject -- most of whom are left-leaning.Quote from deucy28:
I prefer to see it as a political spectrum...
liberalism on the left.................^^^^^^^^^^.............. conservatism on the right.

And as for the results (currently 2:1 against) , the delusional population is known to be higher among traders, young adult males, and those who post to internet message boards, so no surprise there.
Quote from chasinfla:
Conservatism is really neither left nor right, despite oft-repeated associations. The core of conservatism is informed by natural law. The further away from that core one moves - either to the left or the right - the less "conservative" one is. There are extremes of left and right (both have been evident in dictatorships), and since, by definition, conservatism in not extreme, it cannot be the "extreme opposite of the Left."
well, you could say the same thing for socialism, it is just as equally informed by natural lawQuote from chasinfla:

It's clearly not, though it has borrowed from it and to that extent it is a progressive perversion of it. Its implications for social organization are vastly different than that of conservatism.Quote from oldtime:

Quote from deucy28:
I made no implications how far to the right conservatism is. I will now. Conservatism is to the right of center. It is just right of a social (or "moderate")conservatism. Right of that is reactionary, such as fascism.
well, one good thing about being a conservative is you always believe whatever house of cards the socialists have set up will eventually come falling down.Quote from chasinfla:
