Even using potential GDP (I truly love this term - let's look at potential in everything, it allows for such a great grey area), the spending is back to late 2009 levels, and and that is your definition of "austerity"?

Here's the chart back to 1900, with debt to actual GDP. Not fairy tale numbers. You can find this data on usgovernmentspending.com, but charts like it are available everywhere. Potential GDP...lol....

Poor widdle public sector!! They got all uppity about how they could fix everything if we just paid more taxes, then we had to spend less! And their revenues fell! Poor widdle public sector going to lie and pout and cry about how it's not fair!! Eventually there won't be any money for the poor widdle public sector at all and they will have to find work.
