Obama a one term President, Really?

Quote from bone:

Fascinating how the worst candidates throw their names up there first - Gingrich, Romney, Palin not by formal announcement but by every other means, Bachmann ditto Palin, etc.

Trump, interesting but probably not very practical. Daniels, maybe.

There are about fifteen or twenty "young guns" including Rubio, West, Christy, Ryan, Cantor, Noam, etc. who would be really strong IMO with a little more seasoning. Having said that, maybe experience should have been a bigger issue given Obama's resume.

Certainly a quantity of candidates. Overall quatlity, not sure. Also not too sure if any combine enough assets for an actual electoral run, at this point anyway. It seems that Huckabee keeps coming on strong, but then seems to say or do something that sets him back. Too bad, he has some good viewpoints. Don't think RNC heirarchy will get behind Palin or Gingrich. But, Romney may have an outside chance.

Will be an interesting media nightmare for the next year plus. More candidates, more advertising, might have to buy some stock in media companies.

Quote from CaptainObvious:

If the election were held today Obama would win easily. Nov. 2012 is a long ways off. Four bucks plus at the pump will destroy the economy if that happens. ME blows up any worse than it is will destroy the economy.
If Obama had any brains, he doesn't, he would push conversion to natty gas right f'n now. Hundreds of thousands of jobs would be created with the build out, many small business opportunities would arise, and we'd get off the Arab tit. If he did that, and held a public hanging or two of financial exec's, figuratively speaking of course,, Obama would win in a landslide.
Conversely, if a Repub had the brains, they don't, to do the same, they would win easily. We will once again be given a choice between dumb and dumber. Both parties will be too busy pitting the 40K a year guy against the 80K a year guy to do the right thing.

how do you guys come up with this? how can you say obama would win easily if the election were today? is it because there is no opponent? :)

you can't say that because you have no idea who a theoretical opponent is.

Little slow, thought I would check in on the children. By that I mean the name calling bunch. Odumbo etc. Really?

Anyway, your post sounds like it comes from an adult, regardless of political leanings. I'm curious as to who you think might be the good but unknown Republican candidates. This current list, is as you intimate, not really electable.

I actually enjoy much of the rare mature political discussions, but when all the little ones just grab a sound bite and call names, kinda makes one discount their blather.

But, seriously, who do you see in the wings?

Interesting young guy, obviously pretty smart. Hopefully he'll be able to add a bit of youthfulness to the roster at some point.

The next President is going to be someone with administrative experience, i.e. a governor. Look at Presidential history for the past century and see where (i.e. experience) most of them come from.

Politics is not logical. I have finally learned this and may have voted for the last time.

If politics were logical, the conservatives on this board would be calling the President all kinds of bitches, whores, hags, and any other derisive thing they could think to call Hillary.

What makes YOU a joke is that you're Canadian yet you waste your life obsessing about us and our politics. See how that works?

It can never be logical because we cannot all agree on first principles, and their myriad scenarios. Not to mention the complexity of the system.

Anyway, back to the topic, I myself subscribe to the "it's the economy, stupid" theory of elections. We're presently on track to an Obama second term, ceteris paribus.

I agree, hence the title of this thread.
