Atticus, sounds very much like your ex-better half requested a divorce. You vigorously defended yourself and called everyone who witnessed with their own eyes on the scene a blatant liar. How did that work out for you? Apparently you had to close your brokerage account, no more vol trades, wives can be bitches when demanding half of your total assets in a divorce proceeding, huh? Not that I experienced likewise but you know, we hear a lot...

Regarding the last post date you are right, I looked at the last post when "asiaprop" was mentioned in stead of the last post date by asiaprop. My wrong, I can openly admit it. That, however, does not take away a bit from the truth that you behaved like a total asshole at that ET meetup event and put your marriage and own child in danger and jeopardy. If your own wife could not trust you are you seriously asking us to trust you? You are on my ignore, no need to reply.

I added detailed information about Oanda and engaging in pissing contests is not my cup of tea, I prefer to invest my time more efficiently. Hope you will get your act together and better manage what you have left between your legs...good luck.

Thank you for this, I didn't realize ET had such a feature.

OandaWrap v105:

Convention:
candles is now candles_count
candles function uses (array) $rest to pass additional arguments to Oanda
Changed time formatting to UNIX (Seconds since epoch)
Seconds will be returned in microsecond format, use OandaWrap::time_seconds($time) to convert to seconds.

Additions:
candles_time gets candles from between start and end dates

Fixes:
Updated comments for several functions.

and out of pure curiosity, why would you even target Oanda, a brokerage that fails badly in highly volatile times (quotes disappearing entirely, or badly lagging, sometimes by 20-30 pips when pairs move a lot in very short periods of time; if you are out of luck the whole platform crashes, error message "attempting to reconnect server" popping up, lol). But most importantly, a brokerage that charges way more in execution related costs than other highly reputable brokers. Take Interactive Brokers or LMAX for instance.

Example: 100k GBPJPY: Oanda (avg 3.4 pip spread), Interactive Brokers: avg 1.65 pips + USD 3.15 commission. Oanda = around usd 28.60 per 100k traded, IB = around 13.88 + 3.15 = 17.03 per 100k traded (methodology used: calculate Yen based notional traded when entering the trade and difference the notional when exiting the trade, and convert the difference back to USD).

Oanda charges around 68% more than IB plus exhibits way worse slippage and fills. The same applies to any pair you want to pick. I have zero idea why someone would pick Oanda over brokers such as IB. Add to the above facts that IB has been way longer in business, IB's retail accounts are on average way more profitable than Oanda's, IB's capital base is much stronger, IB has a way more sophisticated frontend, backend, API, and FIX protocol than Oanda does (Oanda = REST? Wow, that really gets your orders to market quick, not. I forgot they also offer FIX at some hilarious monthly fee plus 500 usd or so setup fee).

Thank you for your attempts to save my capital it's very thoughtful of you. I think I answered your questions in my first response on page one. However let me say this:

Take 3.4p as a percentage of a ten pip win. 3.4/10 = 34% of winnings
Whereas (1.65)/10 = 16.5%

So half.

Take 3.4p as a percentage of a hundred pip win. 3.4/100 = 3.3% of winnings
Whereas (1.65)/100 = 1.65%

So yes, IB is cheaper. Cost can however be an insightful tool.
Spreads and fills I've had absolutely no problem, spikes and misquotes I've not yet seen.

What are you attempting to show with your calculations? Makes very little to no sense to me. Btw, I did not write this post for you, you can do whatever you choose to do. This is to inform beginners and newbies who care to listen and who possess the minimum required intellect to realize that execution related costs are the single most important component when choosing a retail broker. Second comes the quality of fills and in both does Oanda fail miserably.

But of course would you not know how the Oanda feed lags vs IB because unless you have both up at the same time to compare you would not notice that the Onada feed sometimes lags by 20 pips during highly volatile times. Of course you wont get a fill at those prices (else it would be easy to arb them) but all you see is a fill 20 pips away from the price you see on your feed. If you or anyone else does not believe me then feel free to check out how IB's or LMAX feeds compare with Oanda's next time some impacting econ news hit the wires.

You are either a paid employee or tout for Oanda or absolutely clueless. The above proves my point very clearly and I walked you through detailed calculations WITH REFERENCES and EXPLANATION OF THE COMPUTATIONS.

I think this vol guy works for IB.

Since we are no longer fighting each other but rather preaching to the crowd. Can I advise newbies not to get a broker at all until they can 'see' the market.

When you finally do get a broker, don't trade for 10 pips at a time. You're just paying your broker his holiday money. Instead, go for the 100-1000 pip moves.
