Hi all.

Im starting to dabble in spreadsheets etc for working on some stratergies for indices and forex.

A couple of questions you may be able to answer fo me.

1. Can you obtain $ or £ EOD data (ohlc or any?) for free on the net?

2. Is there any other sources of free csv downloadable data other than yahoo or here....http://www.historicalstockdata.com/

the link above is good but limited to what you can see..

You can try MetaTrader, which provide daily and intraday historical quotes for free. It's can also be converted to CSV format.

Note that you could open a 1-month demo account in the software. After the first month you'd have to open another demo account and continue to try it.:)
 
I am using MLdownloader (www.trading-tools.com) which is able to download data from different free EOD sources. You can even download intraday (delayed) quotes. I can select the provider so if one is down I can get to another. There is even an option to get a paid subscription with Quote.com.

The other item is that you can get futures data with it. Output is either in ASCII or in Metastock format.

PS of all the downloaders I tried this one was the fastest, it requests multiple quotes at the same time, rather than one at a time.
