I am using MLdownloader (www.trading-tools.com) which is able to download data from different free EOD sources. You can even download intraday (delayed) quotes. I can select the provider so if one is down I can get to another. There is even an option to get a paid subscription with Quote.com.
The other item is that you can get futures data with it. Output is either in ASCII or in Metastock format.
PS of all the downloaders I tried this one was the fastest, it requests multiple quotes at the same time, rather than one at a time.
