The press is allowed and required to attack the President, George Washington was attacked by numerous papers on a daily basis (a few funded by his own Cabinet members), and it has growen ever since.
That's not the issue here. The issue is a sleazy newspaper is purporting to reveal highly confidential national security information. It's hardly the first time this rag has jeopardized our country and the safety of our troops. They need to be held to account. The First Amendment is not an absolute protection and we probably need the Supreme Court to rein in the ridiculous interpretations of it that have grown up over the years.
That said, there was some value to the article. As I recall, part of the article mentioned that the Defense Department or CIA hid from Trump the fact they were undertaking this utterly reckless action. They feared he would block it, as he should. This sort of thing is probably an act of war under international law and should require congressional authorization beforehand. Heads should roll.
