NYSE flashing

I notice high speed flashing (fast cancel) Nasdaq style on NYSE lately.

I didn't think this was possible, since a cancel takes a few seconds. Is this the spec doing this or another trader?

I haven't seen it... must be coming from the floor i would think. Has anyone else seen this?

You just noticed this?

It's been going on forever, flashing large bids or offers, making insane spreads but without a print.

Old tricks, sometimes the flash is real, sometimes it's not. Supposedely it's not the specialist but order bracket firms, but I think most of the it's the specialist playing games.

It could just be the specialist at your particular post is dealing with a floorbroker and is negotiating. They are human and they can make mistakes and show the fullsize of the order momentarily if there is a misunderstanding.

For those that care, Im talking about continuous flashing not a one time thing. Like 10 in 5 seconds.

Thats why I called it Nasdaq style which you see all day.

Clear?

So am I, it happens all the time and has for years. Like I said, it could be bracket firms and their orders are electronic. It can also be the specialist, since a lot of their work is automated. For example, he can flash a big order lighting quick just because the quote is changing that quick, someone has put an order above his flash or changed the other side.
