NYSE/AMEX pre/after mkt hours question

ok so I've got an limit order at or outside the NBBO on a security that trades on NYSE or AMEX. But it doesn't show up in after hours and pre-mkt !

For example, right now the specialists wacky and wide spread is shown, but my ask (which would cut the spead to less than half) is not shown in after hours...what gives?
 
I don't know what Bitstream is trying to say. All Naz and listed stocks can be traded on ARCA from 04:00 to 20:00 ET, and at other times within that range on other ECNs.

Your platform shouldn't show you NYSE/AMEX quotes after the close. If your order is a DAY order and was sent to NYSE/AMEX, it should have cancelled at 16:00 ET. If it is on one of the ECNs (ARCA, INET, etc.), it should be displayed in their order book and possibly on your trading platform if it includes their book feeds. You need to know where your order currently resides.

This means your order isn't being routed to an ecn. Or, if you are using IB, you might not have extended-hours trading enabled.

Cripes! I never thought of that. I am using IB - I'll look into toggling that option on if its off. Thanks.

And fwiw the orders were GTC limit.
 
I assume you're looking at SMART quotes. The "wacky and wide spread" is not the spec's. It's simply the best bid and offer from the ECNs, which can be quite wide for all but the most liquid stocks after hours.

I don't know what happens with listed stock orders that are allowed to work outside RTH - whether they get rerouted to an ECN after 16:00 or whether they just disappear. I don't know if GTC makes a difference either. You might check the order type info on the website. Also look at the Destination field of the order. Where does it say the order resides? What is the Status?
 
Usually, GTC orders apply to regular trading hours as far as being reflected. I don't use IB so I don't know how they display orders but you may want to look for a time in force called, "day+". those orders will last until midnight of the day u placed the order. hope that helps
