what time do oil options expire? I know oct12 options expired today sep 17 but what time exactly? If anyone saw oil tanked about 4 bucks
 
Expiration is 2:30pm (Eastern), but be advised that longs have until 4:30pm to enter contrary instructions (i.e. exercise). Options that are in the money at 2:30pm are automatically exercised.

The spike down about 40 minutes before the close was apparently unprecedented. There are rumors that the move involved HFT.
