NVIDIA Quadro 400 PCI and Quadro 450 PCIeX16 driver conflicts?

Quote from Scataphagos:

Which is why one likely cannot run a 450 and 400 together.

Quadro NVS 280
Quadro NVS 280 SD
Quadro NVS 400
Quadro NVS 440
Quadro NVS 280 PCI
Quadro NVS 285

BUT from the list of cards supported by that driver on the site it seems you CAN run a X16 440 and a PCI 400 or together or 280 PCI and 285 X1?. Missed that the first time around. Still might be better with 3 x NVS 400 in 3 PCI slots of xw4600 if doable rather than trying to mix the 440 and 400. Theoretically, (theoretically) may even be able to run 2x400 and 440 in cheap box above for 12 monitors..................

What is interesting/confusing is that the HP spec for xw4600 suggests that an NVS440 can be run with an NVS290 - BUT they use different drivers..............

NVIDIA Quadro NVS 290 PCIe (256 MB) - 132-Bit, 64-Bit32-Bit, 64-BitWS 4 & 5
or 2 of these cards are supported - 2nd card
must be NVS 290 or NVS 440
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 440 PCIe (256 MB) -32-Bit, 64-Bit32-Bit, 64-BitWS 4 & 5
Single NVS 440 or NVS 290 + NVS 440
supported.

I suspect it is a mistake but another spec sheet pairs 450 with 290, while another also says 440+290 OK but says if use 450 then 450 only can be used used.

Could be a separate HP driver or maybe just XP native capabilities (unlikely?)

Another alternative is to get hold of one of the 8 port cards made by Appian/Colorgraphic - seem to remember PCI and PCIE models

My solution was to pick up some cheap 440's (NOT 450) and even cheaper 400s so that I can run 1920 wide resolution if I have to with the 440 in PCIe slot(s) the old 4:3 19" running off the 400's in the PCI if necessary. Someone on ET (rsi80) brought to my attention that the 440 and 400 share the same driver. I also picked up some FX 330 duals for a few dollars.

Yet to buy the HP Pro2000 or 4600 so as yet do not know for sure if it will work - cards were cheap enough to risk it and if it doesn't work one or the other becomes my new number crunching box with single quad or just a dual which should be no issue.

It should be noted that I am not planning on using high resolution 30" monitors for which I would need 450/or295. If this doesn't work then I have to adopt the strategy of building back from the monitors as suggested by others here, but if not using 30" I think I can find a board that will take 2-3 440's or 440's mixed with 400's. I have to buy a new number crunching box anyway so I will see if a cheap off the shelf box can be used - I am in Thailand so don't have as many build options as US based.
