Nuclear expert Arnie Gundersen:-
"Oyster Creek is the same design, but even older than Fukushima Daiichi unit 1. It’s in a refueling outage. That means that all the nuclear fuel is not in the nuclear reactor, but it’s over in the spent fuel pool. And in that condition, there’s no backup power for the spent fuel pools. So, if Oyster Creek were to lose its offsite power — and, frankly, that’s really likely — there would be no way cool that nuclear fuel that’s in the fuel pool until they get the power reestablished. ... The most important lesson we can take out of the Fukushima Daiichi and climate change, and especially with Hurricane Sandy, is that we can’t expect to cool these fueling pools."

Nobody was hurt by the reactor either. This was an earthquake.

I'm not advocating nuclear- only just pointing out that many people's emotional responses with nuclear are wrong, even if nuclear is not the best choice.

No one was hurt by the reactor, eh? No spills of radiation occurred at all, did they? Tell me, when did you leave your job at Pravda?

Look, I'm an advocate for safe nuclear power. Safe. That doesn't mean I gloss over what happened in Japan.

Fukushima is releasing radioactive particles into the environment every day to this day. They never contained the damn thing like the Soviets did with Chernobyl. There is a big difference between radiation exposure and ingesting radioactive fallout.

The fallout is carried by the jet stream and cleaned from the atmosphere when it rains. That means it ends up in the air, water and food wherever the northern jet stream goes.

If you don't believe me do some googling or buy yourself a Geiger counter and see for yourself.

Dude, why let facts get in the way of a perfectly good argument?
