Not impressed with Ninja

I've been looking to trade two accounts with a copy trades
program for futures. I use Tradovate but decided not to use
Tradestation since their margin requirements are too expensive.

I decided to test Ninja 8, as they have very good
margin rates.

Thus far I am not impressed with this Ninja platform. If you place
simultaneous buy & sell orders on an instrument using their ATM
(advanced trade management), if market conditions change and you
decide to delete the orders to reposition at a later time..you have to click the OCO button, turn it off, then turn it back on, before you can replace the same ATM orders...(are you kidding me?)

Leaving orders on the screen is never a good strategy
once conditions change..so the only option is leave present pending
orders on the screen then slide/move to reposition.
OR create several ATM orders with the same criteria.

For speed Tradovate is definitely a more intuitive platform where
you can do everything on the fly without the need to click
buttons over and over. Just drop and rock..if need to reposition,
just drop another order on the screen without needing
to click an OCO button.(No need to create multiple ATM strategies)

I may need to contact Ninja support to see if I'm missing something.

I am pretty sure that the OP is more concerned
about speed, not because clicking buttons is a
problem for him.

When you're in the midst of a trade, buying or
selling, speed is imperative. We can automate
things, but sometimes it is not practical to set
that up.

To the OP, I can't help you about Ninja, I am
on old school E*Trade and RH.

That doesn't sound right. Cancelling the order on the chart should cancel both orders. Then you should just be able to right-click and place your order on the chart at a new price, and a new bracket should pop-up. NT7 works that way at least.
 
I think Mike is right. When the OCO orders are active, it would not allow you to hit the "CLOSE" button, you will need to disable the OCO first. I got used to it now. If it is any easier, you can use Control-Z to toggle the OCO on/off. This is not a deal breaker by any means, if you look at what are available to retail traders out there.

You should just delete the original orders and re-enter them anew when you see fit. OCO orders are strictly for OCO's and not for repositioning. And OCO orders do not work very well on Ninja Trader even when you are doing purely OCO orders. There are no mechanisms for re-positioning in Ninja Trader. Re-positioning = delete old orders and enter new orders in their place.
 
I'm not impressed with Ninja, either, although there are some respectable users on this board who are.

That said, I'm a lifetime license user and both trade with and through Ninjatrader. Since I know how to use this software fairly well and have developed several custom indicators for NT I'm staying with it for now.

If I were a new user looking for a new platform I would probably consider other options, though. Another big disadvantage with Ninja is that they pretty much only offer their own brokerage or Interactive Brokers for trading futures.

I often get the feeling that the NT developers certainly are not traders. For day trading you want to be able to quickly submit/modify orders and this is hard with Ninja's native functionality. For example submitting an order on the chart trader is fairly cumbersome. Because of this I bought an add-on which lets me submit orders with 1-click entry.

What you say about OCO orders I also think is correct. Double check with their support forum. Support is generally good - meaning they'll help you as long as they can. Which is not always. They're also very slow (if ever) to implement changes or improvements in their platform. They'll rather boast about adding a new super moving average on their next update instead of sorting out basic functionality first.

Would you mind to explain which 1-click order entry add-on you are using? I like to enter with a
Stop limit buy/sell order on chart trader. By the time I hit the 3rd click, the entry is no longer valid.

I'm using this one: Clicker - One-Click Chart Trading in NinjaTrader 8 - Volaty Trading

Works great.

It's not really a chart trader the way NT is set up. Way too cumbersome.

Incredibly annoying that @NinjaTrader_Ray (the company) doesn't pay attention to customer needs and implement the basic stuff like this.
