I disagree because in many areas there are mandates and people wear them. I know in my area I see people wearing masks except when eating outside or in wide open public spaces. In other family states and locals same. Schools are now in person, restaurants ar at 50%, malls and stores are open all with masks. Mandates don't work in places where people believe COVID is a non issue. Masks are the least of the requirements to get back to normalcy in many places.
Texas was never on board with protective measures from my experience. I just hope that for most people, it is just feeling sick for a few days and they get over it. However the two neighbors who had it felt weak and out of breath for a month and one couple had not a single pre-existing condition.
I just want those "Fuck restrictions" Texans to not say a word when someone close to them dies or they end up in the hospital. Personal responsibility and all.

Noting the difference between various kinds of masks, the author goes on to detail the science behind why most masks used by the public aren’t doing anything at all to curb the spread of COVID-19, and may even in fact be making things worse. All this talk of droplets, aerosols, microns, and nanometers can be complicated, but Berenson breaks things down in a way that’s easy to understand yet not over-simplified. He also offers several examples of post-COVID research that points to masks being generally useless without directly saying so because it’s become taboo.
After proving unequivocally and devastatingly that most masks offer little to no protection to the wearer, Berenson goes on to poke a few Titanic-sized holes in the contention that masks protect others as a form of source control, which serves as the basis for mask-mandates around the world. Not only does Berenson use existing research to prove that face masks “have almost no chance of catching most of the particles we exhale,” he also destroys the premise that “larger droplets [which masks would conceivably curb] are responsible for most viral transmission.”

SO if you believe China released the virus then the rest of the world should take no precautions to stop it since it was China's fault...no need to worry about getting sick becaus you can blame China and take 0% responsibility...
What about the people who continue to spread it.....they ar as bad as the people who started it...
I've posted many charts showing states that had mask mandates and how their case counts were no different than states without mask mandates, and those mask mandates in place did nothing to prevent a massive case count spike.
I'm not saying there aren't places - smaller counties perhaps - where a mask mandate helped. I'm just saying that generally, a mask mandate relies on compliance. And in a country where the population isn't fully compliant - not by a long shot - this is very problematic to the efficacy of masks.
True it comes down to the people and if people are ignorant or don't give a fuck, the mandate will not change their behavior, especially if the government does not enforce it. The mandate is not the issue as a mandate is useless if no one enforces it. In D.C. there is a mandate but they enforce it so people wear the masks.
However, thankfully private businesses have picked up the slack where government failed. If you look at sources of spreads, it rarely leads back to private businesses who have put in mask and social distancing and cleaning regiments. It often is traced to personal social gatherings of idiots who don't give a fuck.
As with everything else Texas is lagging behind in vaccinations. They are somewhere near the bottom at overall vaccines administered.
I don't disagree with any of this. But private businesses aren't enough to pick up the slack and return the effectiveness to the mandate. If people decide they're not going to follow the mandate, the mandate is going to fail. Can't have half of the population (as an example) saying "nah, not going to do it" while the other half does it.
The last part is the key because after the social gatherings an infected person brings Covid home and begins a spreading cycle that break into extended networks.
