This argument doesn't make any sense. The IRA hasn't been targeting Americans. Al Queida (however you spell it) has been targeting U.S. citizens. The Brits are a friendly government. Afghanistan was not and was facilitating the terrorists. The Brits are actively combating terrorism in their territories and frankly haven't asked for and probably don't need us meddling in their affairs.
Israel relies on the U.S. to maintain its security. If we stepped back Israel would be overrun - maybe not immediately but eventually. When has Blair asked for our help in fighting the IRA?

I don't think Bush has ever mentioned any Caucasian European terrorist groups. Such as the IRA, the Basque seperatists in Spain, the November 17 group in Greece, etc. I wonder why? Do you think it would be acceptable to let bombs drop over Northern Ireland? Hardly. It's much more acceptable when they are Islamic and live in 3rd and 4th world countries. Plus, because Israel is practically the 51st state of the union, we care about Palestinians attacking Sharon infinitely more so than the IRA threatening Tony Blair.
