North Korea says it successfully tested hydrogen bomb for long-range missile

Wonder if you would feel the same if you were in SK along with the 30,000 US troops there. Most US war hawks pressing for The US to attack NK do so because they know SK and Japan will be the recipient of NK's nuclear counter attack.China has said they will defend NK if The US strikes NK first so don't feel to safe because their nukes can reach The US now.
Like I wrote, tough decision. No doubt as a leftist you would rather kick the can down the road and leave it for someone else to decide. Typical. That's what Clinton thought when he sent a pacifist to negotiate a treaty. What could possibly go wrong there? Duyba falls into the same category. Well, now we're way down that road and surprise, surprise, the Norks have nukes and a delivery system. Shocking. What to do. I know, lets keep doing what hasn't worked for decades. That is after all the way of the leftist.
What Trump needs to do is ask congress for a declaration of war. Then we the people, and the entire world can see if we are a nation that defends itself, or if we're a nation lead by cowards. Sadly, we already know the answer, and so does Kim, which is why he continues to do what he's doing.

Defend ourselves? We weren't attacked.

There are tremendous risks to kicking the can down the road more and more. He has some nuke capability but it is not clear that he can deliver it. Give him another eight years of a free pass as he got under Obama and he 100% will be able to deliver it. He doesnt need eight years to get there either. A full out embargo or sanction program will hurt the country badly but Iran will supply the leadership with whatever they need. Everyone else is expendable.
China is 100% dicking around. They are backing north korea. They will side with us on a few things but they are just gaming us so that Fat Boy will keep us preoccupied while they continue to develop their military and occupy the south china sea.

All depends how we define imminent threat. IMO there doesn't have to be a first strike by them to have an imminent threat. In your scenario, immediately after the NK saying they're taking over SK, that would satisfy the imminent threat. Bye-bye NK. Far as I'm concerned we're right at the imminent threat level today. Sanctions haven't and won't work. Some decisions are tougher than other, this is one of those decisions. Millions will die. Waiting means hundreds of millions will die.

Hey...I agree with both of ya. Folks can point fingers around the room at various Administrations and policies all day long... (and where the F has Europe been for the last 30 years btw) (?!).... but the fact remains.... it is what it is TODAY. The time has arrived and its fallen on Trumps watch.

And Tony, to be real... don't you dare say things would be different if Hillary were in the Oval Office because they wouldn't. Kim would be doing the exact same thing, perhaps Trump adds more schoolyard bravado to the situation, but this escalation in tests etc is merely the final culmination of decades of work. A natural progression not unlike our program in the 1950's. You make a good point however about China's stance on what happens if we strike first. That doesn't seem to be getting a lot of airtime, glad you brought it up because it is in fact true.

The hard reality is that sanctions only put more time on the game clock for Kim, and he is using every minute to the utmost it would appear.

2 Million assured dead vs 100 Million *perhaps*.

No one is going to make that call.

You're right, although they might not be working at the current pace they are currently working.Like Obama and Bush I think she would just accept NK being a nuclear power knowing the chances of NK attacking The US are minuscule.

Launching missiles and setting off nukes while saying these are intended for you is an attack. This whole can't fire until fired upon is an idiotic policy that gets people killed.

Yup. and while we are on the topic, this whole "we can only respond with equal and proportionate response" is also bullfeathers.

You wipe your arse on Batman's cape and he gets to decide what the next move is- not you.

By that standard having 28000 US Troops in SK for the purpose of war with NK and having regular live fire military war drills for war with NK is an attack.

Chinese Ambassador: China ‘will never allow chaos and war’ on the Korean Peninsula

By Rebecca Savransky - 09/04/17 11:20 AM EDT

The Chinese ambassador to the United Nations on Monday encouraged dialogue to deal with the North Korean threat.

During an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council, Liu Jieyi said the situation on the Korean peninsula is "deteriorating constantly" and the issue needs to be resolved "peacefully."

"China will never allow chaos and war on the peninsula," he said.

"The parties concerned must strengthen their sense of urgency, take due responsibilities, play their due roles, take practical measures, make joint efforts together to ease the situation, restart the dialogue and talks and prevent further deterioration of the situation on the peninsula."

His comments come after North Korea claimed it successfully tested a miniaturized hydrogen bomb capable of fitting on an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

Defense Secretary James Mattis said Pyongyang would face a "massive military response" should it threaten the U.S. or its allies.

U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley said Monday that North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un, is "begging for war" with his "abusive use of missiles."

“The time for half measures in the security council is over," Haley said during the emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council.

"The time has come to exhaust all of our diplomatic means before it is too late. We must now adopt the strongest possible measures. Kim Jong Un’s action cannot be seen as defensive."

Thanks for kicking the can down the road Bill. Whatcha gonna do now round eye?
"This agreement will help achieve a longstanding and vital American objective — an end to the threat of nuclear proliferation on the Korean Peninsula," - Bill Clinton in 1994.
