Noregrets' "Double or Nothing" Volatility Trading Journal

Good man. It takes more to admit we need to step back then it ever takes to place a trade.

For funsies, since I've started to get interested in flies I'm paper trading the 475/490/505 put fly at 3.71 mid. Thought about throwing it down as a 1 lot but said meh and I'm going to wait until I feel very comfortable with the strat.

My head hurts.... :)

Spreads are super wide here but I would try to get out at a reasonable price on the strike touch.

Took advantage of the VIX drop today to put on two long overlapping Jan14 flies: the 12/14/16 in puts, and 15/17/19 in calls, from .75 total. I plan to hold these until very close to or through expiration.

Was wondering when you were waiting to come back. Glad to see you back.

Thanks, brother. It's good to be back. I've made a tremendous amount of progress on my sheets and trading plan the last few days and feel confident stepping back in. My biggest changes going forward: focusing almost entirely on volatility rather than directional trading; being much more selective with my trades and only going in where I think there is a clear quantifiable edge; and only opening trades after 3:00 p.m. so that as much as possible I am entering in line with the closing trend. Btw, congrats on the nice gold trade today; I had my eye on the straddle but at a little under $3 it just seemed too expensive to be a clear buy in my mind.

Glad to hear you made some progress and think that the time off was well spent. Look forward to watching the vix flies. The vix is a product that I haven't spent to much time on but have always been interested in. Good Luck.

Long the AMZN Oct11 285/315/345 call fly from 17.71. VXAZN had a nice pop today, and I think the stock is showing some indecision on the daily chart after hitting a new 52-week high. Looking for a 1.50 gain here. Will close earlier if the position reaches half of initial thetas or if I lose confidence in the trade.

I think there is a surprising amount of "juice" left in near-dated BBRY options given the $9/share tentative buyout offer and that we already had a preview of what Friday's earnings may look like. This trade has a break even range from approximately an 8.20 to 9.30 share price and expires well before the end of the go-shop period.

Sold the BBRY Oct25 7.5/8.5/9/10 iron condor from .34, 2-lot.
