No more Saturday mail

Quote from ChkitOut:

i will have to admit though they do a pretty amazing job. when is the last time you sent something and it didn't arrive to its destination. Never for me.

i've probably had 15+ instances of having my neighbors' mail delivered to my house in the years i've lived here. my carrier sucks

Postal Carriers are unionizied. AIR their union is part of the AFL-CIO. Good luck getting the government to cut 50% of `em.

It's also why they're looking to stop Saturday delivery instead of Tuesday, which is the slowest mail volume day of the week.

So typical of what the US government has become; the needs of the few outweighing the needs of the entire country...

cutting saturday delivery doesn't save as much as cutting a weekday because a lot of businesses don't receive mail on saturday anyway; hence savings are only for residential routes.

they need to cut delivery to 4 days a week for all addresses. the exception would be a premium service like express overnight, where they would have to deliver next day regardless.

LOL.

LMAO!

ROFLAMO.

Auto workers are unionized (AFL-CIO). When business slows down, layoffs occur. What am I missing?

I can't remember the last time I bought a stamp. Honestly.

Bills? E-Bill Pay. Letters? Email. Packages? UPS. The only thing I get from the post office is advertising CRAP spam-mail, and Jury Duty / Government worthless junk.

If the post office goes to ONE day a week it'll be too many.

You're not taking into account the political fallout.

Another example of what your government can do for you.

USPS to propose 5-day mail schedule, major cuts
Snail mail might soon get even slower.

The U.S. Postal Service plans to propose Tuesday an adjusted mail service schedule, which will likely cut Saturday delivery. The agency will also suggest closing some branches and expanding its use of self-service kiosks in grocery stores and other popular retail spots, as part of its effort to work its way out of a mountain of debt.

USPS posted a $3.8 billion loss in its 2009 fiscal year, the latest in a multiyear string of whopping losses. Mail volume was down 12.7% for the year, a trend the agency expects to continue over the next decade as more consumers opt for online bill payments and message delivery.

The Post Office was $10 billion in debt as of Sept. 30 -- not far off from its $15 billion debt limit, which the agency expects to hit in its 2011 fiscal year.

Before Gov't was rampid, people went to the P.O. to pick up their mail on OWN tme, how much did that save!!

Maybe we should go back to the Pony Express? Let's consider what era we're living in. I doubt people would stand in line for what would be hours to pick up mail.
The point of this is, even with a monopoly they can't make money. Hell, they can't break even. Why is that? It's incompetence, indifference, corruption, waste, all the things you see in a government bureauracy.

I think we should give the government health care as well.

Spot on. Because when it comes to increasing efficiency, lowering costs and eliminating corruption, nobody beats the federal government.
