Trump destroyed Baltimore. It's a well know fact among leftist intellectuals that Baltimore was a fucking Shangri-La prior to 2016. Cummings all teary eyed cause some illegal can't get a toothbrush while kids in his own district are starving, can't get a meal at home, being neglected, 5 year olds thrown out into the street for the gangbangers to raise, filth everywhere, fucking place is an open sewer, but he's now going to set the standards for federal detention centers? Fuck him.
There is a problem with pork, but in a city like Baltimore, the problem is not just related to pork. They get a massive amount of funding for programs and projects that are really needed in the city, but then the local corruption pilfers the program to death. Ironically, all this discussion about what a shit-hole Baltimore is will probably end out benefiting the corrupt politicians and administrators. All the publicity about rats and slums will elevate their housing- for example- problems and so congress and hud will throw even more funds at it. That's just like giving Michael Moore a free ticket to an all-you-can-eat buffet. The locals will squander and pilfer the programs and parcel out contracts on a kickback basis.
For Exhibit A, think no further than the last mayor they fired for corruption (and there have been many). She wrote some bullshit coloring books or children's book. Then worked her charm to convince one of the large local hospitals that if they wanted a contract with the city they might want to buy her childen's book for the kids in the hospital. Subsequently the hospital bought 500K worth of her books (with federal funds they had received) and there is no evidence they were ever printed.
Yeh, that's Baltimore in a nutshell right there.
