TRENTON, N.J. – A 14-year-old New Jersey girl has been accused of child pornography after posting nearly 30 explicit nude pictures of herself on MySpace.com — charges that could force her to register as a sex offender if convicted.

The teen, whose name has not been released because of her age, was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography. She was released to her mother's custody.

The most sane comment in the article "The teen needs help, not legal trouble. This shouldn't fall under Megan's Law in any way, shape or form. She should have an intervention and counseling, because the only person she exploited was herself."

Brings up an interesting point - whatever happened to free speech? She is a kid, and put inappropriate pictures of herSELF on the web. How is this a major crime that could put her in prison???
 
I think the point they are trying to make with this is that the problem of teenagers taking nude pictures of themselves and sharing them all over the place has gotten out of control. I guess they are looking for someone to make an example out of, and unfortunatly this poor girl is the example. I think it's sad, and it's more punishment then she probably deserves, but on the other hand this issue is becoming a big problem and maybe an extreme example does need to be made, and in those cases them's the breaks.
 
If was a boy who put the naked pictures of himself on a myspace, you call him a whore? And you think he should have charges of child pornograpy and possession of child pornography? Have to register as sex offender? Hmm, oh, he offended himself. Now he has to explain himself to get a job, if anyone gives him a chance to explain when he finishes school.
Yes, the girl is putting danger to herself by making her pictures public. She made a mistake, but not child pornography, and not a sex offender.
Those law people should put more thinking into the real rapists and sex offenders who get out of jail.

It is interesting how sentencing law works. There are probably hundreds of instances where a criminal convicted of an actual sexual physical assault did not receive 17 years.

The term is"sexting"and is becoming a problem for the courts to deal with cases like these.
