NFTs, the next wave of stupidity

A Mickey Mantle baseball card sells for a record 12.6 MM.

https://sports.yahoo.com/nearly-fla...126-million-shattering-records-144604692.html

"That price set the record for the most expensive sports card ever sold, beating out a Wagner card that sold for $7.25 million in August. The Mantle card also set the record for the most expensive piece of sports memorabilia ever sold, surpassing a game-worn Diego Maradona jersey from the "Hand of God" game. The Maradona jersey sold in May for $9.3 million."

Yes, a physical, you can eat it, you can burn it card appreciated a gazillion %. Unlike the digital crap crypto morons are peddling.
Over what period of time did that card appreciate?

70 years. If you think that today's NFTs will be worth that much in a few decades, I have a few thousands to sell for you.

Buy them for your grandkids! :)

Maradona's shirt is only 3 decades old, I think, so even you could use that investment in the retirement home.

Just to be clear, I am a fan of the underlying concept of NFTs but I have never collected much of anything, so I couldn't tell you what's going to be valuable in the future. In fact, a $12 million baseball card seems just as ridiculous to me as any of the expensive NFTs out there.

I agree. But let' say Maradona's shirt, you can at least wear it during the coming nuclear winter.

There is a huge difference though:

Expensive collector items are for HNW individuals for bragging rights, while NFTs (with zero intrinsic values) are pushed on average Joes as good investment opportunities.

You need to watch more Pawn Stars on the History channel. ANYTHING that you have that is Star Wars related, in original packaging, is worth at LEAST 10X what you paid for it.

Bragging rights are like investing in a theatre play or investing in hedge fund becauseWalter Wriston former CEO was an investor. People didn't do their DD( due diligence) They just jumped on the ship. End result the hedge fund went kaput.
