anyone else notice all the weird programming on TV these days...well , come to find out that many networks are monitoring the top Netflix streaming movies/TV re-runs and airing them almost simultaneously. Netflix has mostly older re-run movies and TV shows and has a younger viewer audience who may not have already seen these classics many times over (seinfeld, friends, caddyshack, rocky, jaws etc..) so this is what the top streaming views look like with Netflix... and TV networks are trying to flood the same programming onto TV (specially at high netflix demographic viewer times like week days after work 5pm-8pm and sat-sun mornings and afternoons,
during prime time TV channels show what netflix does not have like reality shows: latest episode of singing idol shows, latest celebrity dance episodes, latest cook off and fashion design episodes, latest swamp and southern reality episodes and live sports ect...
for netflix and younger viewers, Its great and has provided NFLX with high growth and high earnings but once cutting the cable cord becomes main stream with older viewers cutting and looking for alternatives I think NFLX offerings will look old and stale and competition (not TV) will start offer more rounded content .
The real cream in non cable content and service will grow into meeting the needs of older and more well heeled viewers since US (and EU, Japan, etc) is aging in general...stuff like high quality first run movies, sitcoms with high quality writers, live or recent music performances, maybe some classical or artistic performances ect... This is all stuff that NFLX does not have and probably never will have judging by their business model
NFLX just filled an early niche with younger people eager to cut the cord and do everything online
once this younger crowd matures a bit, that stale content on NFLX will look fairly worthless much like whats on TV right now!
